Hello

I have a Micronet SP3352 Broadlink ADSL Ethernet Router and i have a problem since i remember i bought the thing is i could solve it now i can't.
So to use programs like emule\utorrent i need to Port Forward the ports so that i don't get behind a firewall. So i go to CMD and i type IPCONFIG i get the ip address (192.168.8.2) so i put the ports and the ip address and i save and re-start all is good for 2 min or so, bc then my router by himself re starts and changes the ip address to 192.168.8.3 or 192.168.8.5 and i get stuck behind the firewall again... and nomatter how many times i change it, it changes back again on its own...

ANyone please help me to solve this it's getting annoying

thx

You can either setup a static dhcp lease or set yourself up with a static ip.

1) go into your router, somewhere in there should be a section to add the mac address of your computer so that it will always get the same ip - it is normally in the lan ip/lan setup section.

2) set the dhcp range to something like 192.168.8.10-192.168.8.254
then setup your pc to have the ip 192.168.8.2
like this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309642

(in the guide they use 192.168.0.100 change this to 192.168.8.2 and 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.8.1)

Thx for replying :)

I saw the guide haven't used it yet bc i would you to clarify something for me:

1) why do you tell me to go to the MAC address? what you want me to do there?

2) do i also need to do this steps?

. Click Advanced, and then click the DNS tab.
6. In the DNS suffix for this connection box, type MSHOME.NET.
7. Click OK.
8. Click OK.
Make note of the computer's name for name-resolution purposes:
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
2. Click the Computer Name tab.
3. Note the entry on the "Full computer name" line.

For the purposes of this article, the computer name includes everything up to, but not including, the first period in the name that is listed on the "Full computer name" line. For example, if "COMPUTER1." is listed, the computer name is COMPUTER1 (with no period).
4. Close all open dialog boxes.

LEt me know and TY

PS: i went to the router and changed the DHCP range to what you told me and i did everything in the guide till point 5...

I tried to run emule and it said i was behind a firewall. I did a CMD - ipconfig and the "open ip" ended in .11 :( not in .2 the forward i have on the router to allow connections.

1) ipconfig /all
will show you the physical or mac address

2) no you can stop after you have setup the static details.

Number 4 is the most important option from the instructions - you need to make sure that you tick "use the following ip address" and specify 192.168.8.2

Hello again...

So i went to "My network places" clicked properties and appeared "network connections" on that screen i have "Local Area Connection" and "1394 Connection"

If i use your guidelines puting the ip address and the dns server on the "local area connection" my internet stops working, if i put them in the "1394 connection" nothing happens and im still behind a firewall.
So something must be wrong here...

PS: i hate networking :P

The connection you are meant to be using is "local area connection"

ip:192.168.8.2
subnet:255.255.255.0
Gateway:192.168.8.1
DNS:208.67.220.220
(try the above dns instead)

im guessing that your router does not forward on dns requests.

(most do)

Instead it uses dhcp to allocate the dns server found on the wan interface.

the server I gave you is from www.opendns.org

go there to read more about them :)

The IP address you are seeing is not your routers, but rather your machine's IP. What you're going to want to do is either reserve addresses in your routers DHCP configuration page, or statically set your machines IP in windows.

To set your IP via your router, log in to the router's configuration page and find the DHCP configuration settings. What you're going to want to do here is assign your MAC address with a IP address of your choice.

OR

You can go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right click on your internet connection and select properties. Click on TCP/IP and click properties. On that dialog box, select 'Use the following IP address' and set the address to whatever you want.

The subnet mask should read 255.255.255.0 and you're gateway address as well as DNS address would be the same address as your router (usually 192.168.0.1).

Now, go back to the port forwarding page in your router, and use whatever IP you manually set in the steps above. At this point, your address will be static and will no longer have to worry about your IP address changing.
