what will you use with this?

i think it's the fact that it's a 1.8ghz 55w quad-core cpu

Thanks for the pic alucasa :).
What mobo you have in plan for the 2P system?

It took me lots of efforts to get that one CPU from Canada. I am trying to find a second one to complete, but there isn't simply any stock.

As for mobo, look below.

I think he was just trying to show a pic of a hard to find cpu..
Let's take it as that and cut him a bit of slack.
He's one of the good people on this forum and deserves that much from us.
Thanks.;)

I'd love to have that board and two of those chips....

NCIX or Direct Canada? Sticker looks like one of 'em.

55W? haven't heard anything official about that power envelope, guessing a new stepping makes it possible?

I guess Q6600 at 1.8GHz will have even lower TDP. There is nothing special about 55W at 1.8GHz

I know how exciting can be the idea to have "server" hardware, but , unfortunately, it rarely really justify itself over
"normal" desktop stuff -performance wise. Not in this case for sure.

guessing it's ACP...

Probably I will have an Intel fanboy sticker if I say the ACP tricks is to fool people and that it works? So I will not say it :)

Rumours say that Intel's TDP is same as AMD's ACP.

IF that is correct, then read forward.

Thus if Intel says that TDP is 45W, it means that the average thermal envelope is 45W. If AMD says TDP is 65W, it means that the theoretical maximum thermal envelope is 65W.

Which one is more attractive, 45W or 65W? Are they same in practise? YES. Do we hear "This intel is SO much cooler than that AMD!"? Yes...

Though realworld measurements say otherwise.

No but if you want betters arguments just take the ACP white paper.
AMd doesn't say Intel tdp is false but that there is difference on the platform level:
"ACP – THE NEW STANDARD?
The natural question becomes “is this a new industry standard measurement?” AMD believes the methodology behind ACP should become the new standard, as it includes both the processor cores and the memory controller. Today, companies can mask the true power consumption by fi xating on the processor itself and neglecting to mention the power consumption of the external memory controller."

It is the highest expected sustainable power while running known power-intensive real
applications.

TDP. Thermal Design Power. The thermal design power is the maximum power a processor can draw for a thermally significant period while running commercially useful software.

Max power that can be sustained for a significant period is not the same as max power that might be induced from an extreme tool like Intel TAT.
