Hi XS guys, Matt: Co-Director of Overclock3D here

I thought the peeps here at XS would like a slice of the action in our new competition. After asking IFMU who agreed it was OK, here it is, Overclock3D's latest competition.

Note the rules & regs, UK/EU only (sorry guys, next one will be world-wide) and all the rest of the smallprint. TWO CPU-Z screenshots + validations. One stock, one overclocked...validated after the competition start date (06/11/07)

Check below for all of the info

http://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/articles/2007/11/05144750258l.jpg (http://track.adform.net/C/?bn=69818&cpdir=http://www.komplett.co.uk)

Are you the best Overclocker?

If so, Overclock3D (http://www.overclock3d.net/) and Komplett (http://track.adform.net/C/?bn=69818&cpdir=http://www.komplett.co.uk) challenge you to enter our latest competition to win one of 5 award winning Abit IP35 Pro (http://track.adform.net/C/?bn=69818&cpdir=http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=335649) motherboards recently reviewed (http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.php?/cpu_mainboard/abit_ip35_pro_intel_socket_775_motherboard/1) by OC3D in the first round of our competition. If you can prove your skill and manage to be one of the lucky 5, you'll be in with a chance of winning a HIGH END PC UPGRADE courtesy of Komplett and Abit.

Round 1: Overclock your own PC

http://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/articles/2007/11/07201841889l.jpg
The first round gives you the opportunity to show us exactly how far you can push your existing hardware. In this round we're looking for the highest percentage (%) overclock from your stock processor speed. Your chosen processor can be any model from AMD or Intel providing it is based on either the LGA775, Socket939 or AM2 platform, and you can enter your results as many times as you like.

For example: if your PC is based around an Intel Core2Duo E4300 CPU with a stock speed of 1.8ghz, and you manage to push the CPU speed up to 2.8ghz , this would count as a 60% overclock.

There are no restrictions on the type of cooling or other components used, so feel free to be as creative and extreme as you like.

All we ask is that you provide CPU-Z verified (http://valid.x86-secret.com/) 'stock' and 'overclocked' shots of your processor in action. The overclock doesn't even have to be stable, so long as you can boot into windows and run CPU-Z you're in with a chance!! Further information on CPU-Z verification (http://valid.x86-secret.com/) and downloading of the CPU-Z program (http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-141.zip).

Round 2: Let's Overclock the Abit IP35-Pro

http://www.overclock3d.net/gfx/articles/2007/11/07202630319l.jpg
If you've managed to rise above the rest of the entrants in the first round of our competition and come out in the top 5, you will recieve an Abit IP35 Pro motherboard from Komplett.co.uk to play with. This top motherboard is your key to winning the top prize of a Komplett.co.uk High-End System Upgrade (Abit IX38-QuadGT (http://track.adform.net/C/?bn=69818&cpdir=http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=341381), Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 2GB (http://track.adform.net/C/?bn=69818&cpdir=http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=334571), Intel Core2Duo Q6600 (http://track.adform.net/C/?bn=69818&cpdir=http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=330169), Abit iDome DS500 Speaker Set (http://track.adform.net/C/?bn=69818&cpdir=http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=325103)) which will be handed out when the competition ends on December 14th.

To be in with a chance of winning, we want you to use your existing hardware combined with the Abit IP35 Pro motherboard sent to you by Komplett to achieve the highest possible score (lowest time) in SuperPI Mod (http://www.xtremesystems.com/pi/) 1M. Once again any type of cooling goes, and we'll be looking for screenshots of both SuperPI and CPU-Z for validation of your results. Further information on how to use SuperPI will be posted in our forums nearer the time.

Rules of Entry
Entering the competition is at your own risk. Overclock3D, Komplett.co.uk and Abit do not accept any responsibility or issue guarantee on parts used for the overclocking competition.
Entry is limited to the following countries: UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Germany, France, Austria, Denmark & Sweden
When accepting to the second round challenge, Komplett.co.uk & Abit will sent you the Abit IP35 Pro motherboard for free. At the same time you commit yourself to pro-actively enter the competition.
The winners of the first round are chosen by the percentage overclock obtained from their existing hardware. Winners of the second round are chosen by the best results (lowest time) obtained in SuperPi Mod 1M.
You are required to upload one or more pictures of your system throughout the competition along with benchmark results and discussion of any problems encountered.
NO posting of old results. All CPU-Z verification links must have a date on or after 06/11/07 (competition start date).
The first round of the competition is limited to LGA775, Socket939 or AM2 platform motherboards only.
All means of cooling are permitted in both rounds of the competition.
Overclock3D and Komplett reserve the right to refuse entry into the competition and any entrant found falsifying results will be instantly removed.
Usual Overclock3D forum rules (http://forum.overclock3d.net/announcement.php?f=4) and liability waivers (http://www.overclock3d.net/articles.php?/misc_content/about_overclock3d/2) apply.
For any and all discussion head over to the Discussion Thread (http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?t=13455) - Non-Entry posts will be removed

Big thanks to XS for letting us share this with the XS community :)

That's a very interesting competition form especially stage 2. Too bad my country ain't there but I don't have the required stuff to make it to the top 5 anyways. :p: Well maybe if I'd put my setup onto the the balcony, below zero temps have started to kick in here now so. :)

I'll see what I can do, can't guarantee anything though

Again any CPU can be used, but I have to assume it's going to be C2D for the low PI times

Sure it is, but they decide.
It must somehow be because of shipping costs for the motherboards and other stuff?

NO, ONLY Denmark :D Komplett has really grown here...
Dont involve sweden or norway :D They are skill 2 :D

BTW maybe remove the /EU part ?

We were keen to have the competition world-wide, but unfortunately Komplett are keen to keep it in the remit of their stores which is a little disappointing

I am as I said negotiating with them about it, so we may see

Are you supposed to use one setup in the qualification.
And then use another CPU in the final round.

Or do you have to use the same CPU, memory and so on?

Llwyd
11-16-2007, 10:07 AM
I think it would be good form to use the same stuff (as I expect its the best youve got to hand) really but obviously stuff will die and break so upgrades may be unavoidable. Not much point buying expensive gear for the second round as you will be reducing your net gain IF you win

My results, hope it's not too late. Discovered this thread today, so I had to mount the rig up again to get a non-OC result, with Vista this time as I was benching PCM Vantage. I used CPU-Z 1.41 as I didn't know 1.42 was out, so I cant verify the files :- ( Well, I have to wait for next comp to enter then.
