Hey Guys, I'm new to the forums and just thought I'd introduce myself. I got a laptop about a year and a half ago and finally got interested in computers. It had a Pentium M750 @ 1.86Ghz and a lowly X600se mobility (se - yeah thats the 64bit version....). Obviously I had to do something about this to at least enable me to play Medieval 2TW with some dignity, and BF2142 at 800x600. So I delved into your underground world and found overclocking.

Results:
CPU:- Pentium M750 1.86Ghz, now @ 2.25
GFX :- X600 Mobility 358/279 now @ 477/318
Unfortunately I only managed 33.110 seconds in SuperPi 1M and 1485 in 3DMark05.... so I made a Laptop Overclocking guide (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=25716) to help others in my situation.

I needed a Desktop but had to do so on some seriously limited funds. Thus after some advice from the people on the techPowerUp! forums I built my £350 budget Gaming machine.

It orginally consisted of:
Gigabyte GA M57-SLI S4
AMD 4600+ X2 @2.79, now @2.84
AC 64 Pro
2x 512MB Corsair PC2 5400
Inno3D 7600GT @ 655/850
250GB Hitachi T7k250
Generic PSU (shame on me)

I managed 4309 (http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=9101184) in 3D06 on this machine but the GFX card was maxed out. I didn't have the cash to spare in case I blew something up so volt-modding the 7600GT was just too risky. I did try a pencil-mod once and got to 700 on the GPU, but the temperatures were way too hot for my liking; so off it came.

I got my hands on some more cash just before the beginning of July and got myself an X1900GT rev 1. Upon my previous appalling scores I needed to overclock it heavily, and resulted in 715/819 from 500/600 and managed 5793 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2802989)- this was my X1950Pro killer. The temperatures held me back and I couldn't afford more elaborate cooling than the ICEQ3 HSF. With some more practice I also got the overclock of the 4600 a little higher- to 2.84GHz. Currently I can't get any higher an overclock regardless of my fiddling around. It can boot @ 3.0GHz but is never stable at anything above 2.88 and the voltage needed to get it to that are too much for my AC 64 pro cooler. I fixed an X800XT during this time and had a play with one of those too- nice card. Gave it to a mate who didn't have any money and was stuck on an X300se

However the X1900GT also bored me and I got another one on a whim of somehow hacking XFire onto my nforce board. Out of the blue came an offer I couldn't refuse- an X1950XTX for under £100. I got it immediately and gave the second X1900GT to another mate who was also low on cash. I kept my first one as I don't think it's fair to sell an overclocked card without saying so and probably devaluing it if I did- and I didn't have any mates who needed it.

I'm still tackling with the X1950XTX to get as high an overclock as I possibly can on the stock cooling.

Really looking forward to hopefully becoming a regular member of your forum.:toast:
