I give up, I’ve just reseated and re-applied the AS3 (following the guide at arcticsilver.com), but my 3.0GHz P4C is still running at 50c idle (according to Winbond Hardware Doctor). It is a *slight* improvement to previous, when it was approx 53c idle, but is still way of what I see others achieving.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

edit: after the system having been on for approx 20mins (doing NOTHING) the idle temp is now back up to 52c :( What is going on?

it's the system temp, your case is too hot.

I have a 24C difference in system and cpu temps, and I have a faster fan.

I need to reseat mine.

strange...

I have received and mounted my slk900u yesterday, and its sweet !

How was your CPU temperature before the HS change ?

@ X-WoLv-X, the RPM of the CPU fan can be seen in the screen cap I took of Winbond, it's 2,280RPM, I think is has a max of 2,500RPM.
Temps with the stock Intel were about the same (53c) as I said in my origional post.

BTW, the MAX RPM o the 92mm Tornado is 4800 !

Yes.. maybe your chip is broken.

have you turned off q-fan in bios?
also is that an abit board you got there, as it normally reads temperatures 10-15C too high

Hmmm, that's interesting to know, if so then my CPU is actually around 35c idle, which isn't to bad considering how hot and humid it is here at the moment. What is the Q-Fan? I can't see any mention of it in the BIOS. Thanks!

i'm not sure if the ic7/is7 have q-fan or something similar (basically it changes the speed of the fans connected to the mobo depending on the temperatures).

anyway, read these threads (plenty others too) on the abit forums about the temperature problems:

Many thanks Johnny! I feel alot happier now knowing my chip isn't getting fried! I have looked round those threads and it seems my temp readings are (sadly) normal for the IC7-G. Maybe Abit will get it sorted soon.

yer i was a little pissed off by the temps that i was getting according to the winbond HW program... so i chucked a thermal sensor next to the CPU and wallah... a reported 12degC under what winbond was saying :)
