when i get my P4 1.6a northwood and IT7 MAX would it be a good idea to do the VID PIN voltage mod right off the bat...my reasoning is if i set it to pin 3&4 its 1.7v default (can i adjust it lower then default with the IT7?) and i will be using a TT Volcano7+ (lapped) and AS3 and the AS3 has to sit for 72 hours and i dont want to have to start pushing my cpu and in 3 days start finding its limits and have to take off my heatsink(wrecking the AS3 bond) to VID pin it anyway to push it further

im not going to damage my cpu by vid pinning it right out of the box am i? the cpu temperatures should still be within reason?

WildKard,

The IT7 is great with voltage adjustments. the v-core will can be adjusted down to 1.1v, this would give you 1.3v with your pin mod.
I use a regular Resistor V-Mod myself. A 50k veriable resistor attached to pin 7 and to ground useing the 6301 IC chip.

1-so its just the basic HIP6301 chip like on all the other boards(cough iwill kk266 cough)?
2-if i were to go this route would using a 20k Pot do a good enough job because i dont have any 50s lying around only a bunch of 20s...
3-and if not would linking 2 twenties together do a much better job, and if i were to this how would i wire the 20s together with the motherboard to make this work properly

(yes ive done Vcore mods on the HIP6301(iwill) and HIP6302(MSI) )

I wouldn't use 1 20k, I think mine was at 40k when I hooked it up and it gave me 1.66v, the IT7 under volts so it would be like 1.7.
I guess you would have to run the 2 20s in serial, just have them set at 40 before you hook it up.
And yes its the same old v-mod.
