Another heads up,

We have more prizes to give away and we will be starting a Vantage contest at the end of the Asus contest ends.

Working out details, prizes have already been delivered for this contest.

But we have done "first to get score exactly ####" where #### is attainable by nearly everyone.

No, I really have no idea on the format of the contest...don't ask.

im guessing its a similar format to the asus one

could i suggest a minimum post count of 10 or something as there are a few guys in the asus comp with only 1 post (i.e the lucky number post)

im not trying to disuade people from joining ( far from it im only new here) just it frustrates me when people join for competions and are never heard of again

Now THAT would be fun to do. First to get 3000 Vantage-marks or something ungodly low. Would require tweaking system for worst performance possible and purposely crippling it :D

I just sold my 8800GTX a month ago. I was hoping that nvidia is kicking out the new G90 series fast but I believe that they are playing the waiting game so they can get the max $$ out of the G80. Because ATI/AMD is not yet a real treat.

Um, so how would one get a score after first run? You cannot know score unless you submit online, and for more than one single online submission, you must buy this app. I think contest is not gonna happen unless futuremark sponsors it.

sky
11-07-2007, 01:19 AM
um?
what futuremark bench are we talking about anyway. but from my experiences, you can upload at least 3 benches using the free version of 2k1, 2k3, 2k5 and maybe 2k6 (not sure on this one, haven't really used it much).
besides uploading != running. you can run as many tests as you want for as long as you like. you have the option to save your results and upload them at a later time. i usually do that, because in some circumstance my rigs cannot connect to the interweb while benching (firewall off = everything blocked) or the network decides to stop working at fsbs beyond a certain point, ...

ah and you CAN see the score even without submiting. with the newer futuremarks you get to click on "details" (or whatever) et voila - the scores are visible.

prizes should only go to users who contribute to folding@home heavily. They are the real heroes who often buy thousands of $'s worth of equipment soley for helping others. (DDTUNG for instance)

If any of the prizes involve quad cores i would hope some of you guys that win would at least consider sending some his way.

I'll post my new scores when I get my upgrades done early next month. I think I am at like 54XX with my current single drive setup in vista 32. Ill have a raid array and 64 bit next time.

aussie-revhead
01-11-2008, 06:01 AM

[XC] gomeler

I've seen benefits all across the board with RAID0. This weekend I'll be doing some tests just to see how well it increases performance.

aussie-revhead
01-11-2008, 07:20 AM
I have used raid0 a few times but its a hassle to recover data from a raid0 pair if the parent mobo dies , and last few builds I cbf messing with it , but if its benching better I will set it up again .

I've switched my raid array Intel Matrix Raid that is across 3 different Mobo's think it was the from my Asus P5B-Deluxe to Asus P5W-Deluxe to my Abit IP35-Pro without any issues.

Really Raid 0 is nice for large files I find it and moving vast amonuts of data quickly. I find it very useful in my system. I got 2 drives but split into a 150gig and a 490gig ish drives. Works well and easy to backup.

speedfreak86
01-11-2008, 03:41 PM
Sorry if I confused you. Raid 0 will show benefits regardless of OS. I have heard that it seriously increases Vantage scores. Hopefully when I get my computer upgraded I will have Vista 64 bit to take advantage of my 4 gigs of memory though.

aussie-revhead
01-11-2008, 06:36 PM
Got it

I have tried twice to move a raid0 array and never been able to get them working again , one was even back into the parent mobo and it still would not recognise the existing set . I have set up a NAS now so I can store stuff away from the pc , so I will have a go for sure .

You guys with Vantage - have you tested 4x drive striped array ? Any/much gain over the regular pair of drives ?

;)

Id be interested in competing aswell. Although I don't post here much I've been a member for more than a year and I frequent the forums quite a bit. I like reading and taking in information and knowledge rather than posting. That will change soon though. I've got some benchmarks to post.

thats only for back in the day when the raid info was stored on the controller and not the drives with the adaptec adn promas controllers from about 2000 and then withe the ich7r and up they are compleatly portable with the same brand, ive got my raid0 to run on a p5b-D ich8r when it was made on a ich9r dfi x38 so its not that big of a problem

and ghost was a problem since people stopped with dos drivers but the newest ghost dose ntfs, and windows full computer backup dose the same thing and no dos restarts that tool is well worth hte upgrade to biz or ulti if its only on there im not sure

yeahh it's a hard to have a contest that is equal for everyone, maybe one based on performance and other on % of overclock or something arbitrary so that qx9650's on ln2 would not be unstoppable.

I would be interested in giving this comp a go too.

But I will certainly not be upgrading to compete. I am more practical than fanatical, and my machine does me well for what it is used for.

My trial version of vista  expires in a month and I will not be purchasing a copy.

I guess I could always format the partition and re-install just for this competition. Afterwards I can the get 12Gb of HD real estate vista occupies back and put it to a good use ;)

Ok everyone, we do apologize for the delay, however we have run into a couple of snags with this and are still working on sorting it out so the contest would be fair for everyone.
We are unsure how long it is going to take to get it situated completely.
So... Fugger and I have discussed a few things and we are working on setting up another contest to run in the meantime.
We need figure out a few things for it, but it is in the works.
Please give us a little bit more time and we will get at a contest rolling. Hopefully started before the end of the month, but no promises.

Now, just so those who are like myself and whose hardware is not really 'up to snuff' don't fear. The contest idea we are thinking of going with will have little to nothing to do with your present hardware.
Keep in mind, this has to do with a different contest idea we are playing with, not the Futuremark Vantage Contest.

So, again, please accept our apologies and give us a little bit more time. We do have something in the works!

Thank you for understanding!~!
