I have two one gig sticks of CMX1024-3200C2, running in dual channel on an A8N-SLI premium. At stock speed and dram config set to auto, they default to 3-3-3-8 2T. If I try to set them to 2-3-3-6 1T, as according to:

Testing parameters for XMS3200C2:

CMX512-3200C2 Data Sheet
CMX256A-3200C2 Data Sheet
Motherboard make and model: EPoX EP-8K3A and/or Asus P4S533 and/or EPoX EP-8K5A, and/or Asus A7N8X.
DRAM Clock: 200 MHz
Memory Voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts
DRAM Timing (overrides SPD values): Manual
System Performance: Normal
SDRAM Bank cycle time (or tRAS): 6
SDRAM Bank Interleave: 4
SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3
SDRAM RAS-to-CAS Delay (tRCD): 3
SDRAM CAS Latency: 2

All other settings are motherboard defaults.
Maximum recommended VDIMM: 2.9

i just looked at corsair's memory configurator and found this:
TWINXP2048-3200C2 DDR-400 (PC-3200) 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) 3-3-3-8-2T

why does this say c2 when its rated at 3-3-3-8? This appears as if it might actually be correct, I'm just wondering why this is different.

Based on your post, you are looking at the wrong data sheet. That's the one for the 256mb and 512mb modules. Look at the next section below that one or at the link below.

Try it again at the exact same settings but at 2T command rate. That board is probably not going to run the 1024mb modules at 1T.

I've tried that. The memory configurator says my board should run this memory at 3-3-3-8, so I figure this is the way it's supposed to be. I'm just wondering why.

Have you tried completely clearing the CMOS and then resetting the timings and voltage manually? Or, after a CMOS clear, have you tried running them at SPD and with the voltage set manually? Will it do these timings with a single module?

Just to be sure, you may want to test each individual module with Memtest. Make sure you disable Legacy USB Support during the test and set the timings and voltage manually.

I've been through a couple of CMOS resets and voltages all the way up to 2.9V.

I might try single modules later, but its a pain to deal with so I'll do it when I have more time.
