Definitely different, and that's a good thing. I guess I'm not the only person in the world that thinks Halo is nothing special.

i say he put it right on the dot, halo, when you actually think about it, really is just an average game, but somehow it's more addicting than others.... probably the multiplayer on a console+online at the same time aspect.

I think he is right on point when it comes to Halo 3. It definitely is over-rated.

Some of his review of Episode 2 was clearly done by someone who hasn't played all the games. Other stuff was spot on.

And he was right about Portal. Great game.

The only problem I see with his Halo 3 review is that he doesn't realise, when he calls it average, that Halo was the game that's defined the shooter-genre this decade... So it isn't "run of the mill", it's simply more of the same, genre-defining gampelay...

I agree and disagree. I think Halo is the first game that successfully brought the FPS to a console. However, the people that have been gaming on a PC for a long time didn't see anything new or exciting. Just my take.

I was thinking more along the lines of gameplay mechanics...
Shield: Every single shooter coming out these days, has some kind of regenerating shield/health-system (even Crysis, which is a PC-only shooter).

Off-hand Grenades: It was the first game to introduce grenades as a secondary weapon, and not simply as another kind of ammo.

Also, it was one of the first games to introduce vehicle-based sections of the game, in a succesful fashion at least...

It brought the FPS mainstream to consoles is what I meant. Yes Goldeneye was successful but it wasn't nearly as big/popular as the Halo universe.

Man this guy is freaking hilarious. It also helps that I agree with 95% of of what he says. The MP of MoH:A isn't that good either, since he didn't talk about it. There are only a handful of maps and half of those are remakes of maps from MoH:AA, and not even the good MoH:AA maps.

Like the thread... That's my kind of review

I like the fact that he point out that MOA franchise have been here for more then 9 years... More years then WWII ... That may explain that they reused those maps ... MOA need a major refresh ... They never recuperate when the lead designer team move out to create COD ... COD have now moved to modern war, so I guess MOA should do the same ...

Not that I dislike WWII games, I'm waiting for the new Brother in Arms anxiously ... that more my kind of game... More realistic like Rainbow franchise ...

I'm waiting his take on Crysis :D

I'm waiting his take on Crysis :D
I'm pretty sure it'll be something along the lines of
"slide-show which is arguably pretty, but feels like I'm playing the equaliant of a 1950 horror-movie with very bad stop-motion"
Although I think he'll be a bit more lenient on Crysis' gameplay, he did like Portal afterall, so he like innovation, which should give Crysis some +points :p:

But yeah, I can't wait for it either :D

He did like Bioshock too for the story ... but find it too much close to System shock ...

Funny I was hoping to have a review for Jericho this week.... Ah well ! What's coming next week ? Ahhh COD Modern warfare :D

I hope for Gears Of War for the PC, but that might just be the fanboy in me talking :p:
As long as he does Crysis, I'm saved :D
One of the best games this year, deserves the best reviews... Even the ones that don't like it

It's remarkable, he manages to sound like a total rant-hat, but at the same time, every single point he makes is legit... I love it

I forgot the guy's got every percivable console at hand...
Once again, everything he says is spot-on, I love it...
Although, his Tomb Raider Anniversary is by far my favorite...
Especially the ending
I've shown the reviews to my brothers and some friends a few times, but they never seem to get them the same way I do... Perhaps it's because I watch them enough to get every single slide, or maybe it's my slightly british sense of humor... I dunno :D

haha, that guy is the man. very accurate review for both orange box and halo 3. portal and tf2 is what i looked most foward to. dont get me wrong. hl2 is great, but it gets boring after some time. the only thing i looked foward to is the progression of the story in e2.
i just hope that episode 3 is somewhat as long as hl2, and portal becomes an expansion to hl2. i really hope valve lined themselves for success with portal. i am very curious to find out how it relates to hl2 and maybe see hl2 pass the torch to portal as a continuation of the story (gordon freeman had his run, i want to hear more about this new girl!)

This guy nails it every time. Perseus Mandate (PM) looked like a sack of a**holes compared to other games. I mean can we get a freaking engine update or what? The textures were bland and the story was non-existent. I interviewed to be a tester for TimeGate Studios (the people who made PM) and I'm glad I didn't get the job. I probably would've been fired after I told them what I thought of the expansion pack. Cheers Yahtzee, I hope someone like NaziPlanet (aka FilePlanet) and the IGN network doesn't offer you tons of money and you accept it only to change your style. Keep up the good work.
