Lets make it simple
Amd makes locked cpus and takes freedom from costumers

Multipler;

1. Unlocked

OR

2. Locked

Not really, their black and fx editions are unlocked, not to mention intel locks their mults too. I don't see any arguement you could possibly have against only amd about locked mults

We want a decently performing CPU...multiplier...oh well...everybody knows that only the "top" models if not only the flagship model have/has unlocked multipliers.
Unlocked multipliers on all models or cheap models is like a budget overclockers' wet dream which will never...come true. [ unless you consider the A64 x2 Black Cat Edition todays overclockers cpu :D ]

I don't get the question? I mean yeah I'd like unlocked multis (Who wouldn't?) but it ain't gonna happen...

why not? what %age of people are paying for fx's these days?

0.0000000000000001% of buyers? :lol:

intel raises multi's for their cheaper c2d's/bins - i suppose because they are only capable of lower fsb speeds.....e4500 & e2180 for example.

black edition gives you an fx without the ridiculous pricetag....and it is something that intel hasnt got....except on their extreme ly overpriced chips.

black editions are an attempt to eke out some more cash from k8's

It really doesn't matter if the multipliers are locked or not, if the FSB scaled REALLY well. They are all unlocked downwards so you can get a 12-14X and just drop it down if you need to. The intel boards are clocking 50-75% above rated FSB's and that negates any need for an unlocked multiplier if you ask me. When you can take a a 7X266 and take it to 7x500 for a 95% overclock, I think AMd needs to take a slice from the Intel book!

Yea,yea..
when you got locked cpu you go fsb ocing...
Besides i and voters feel more fredom to go with multipler ratio.

Like;
333*9=3k
333*10=3300
333*12=4k
333*15=5k!
Eazyer to oc wery much eazyer!

If you take good close look of latley ocing we have....
Just like playing araund with ht deviders; memory deviders, bah and nbridge heat up, sbridge heat up....Somthing else heat up (what i didnt remember yet), lot more complicadet overclockin with FSB

Is just like asking a blind man if he wants to see?

The funny part would be knowing who has voted for a locked multiplier??:ROTF:

I vote for LOCKED too! What fun is oc'ing unlocked, and btw, don't you want to oc your ram???

Unlocked is for girlieboys and posers with too much money for their own good :p

BTW: I'ts called poll, pool is for swimming...

well...

if everything else would be the same (fsb, avalaibe ram dividers, price and so on), i would definitly go for the unlocked version....

but... usually the unlocked versions cost a hefty premium.. and i cant justify the price difference, especially considering the high fsb's that are reachable with todays mainboards.

You would think unlocked, but I've had both and honestly have never ran either at the stock multi, I've always used a lower one, so I'd say it doesn't matter

Yeah im retired ocer, now i see ocing as vaste of time, money, and energy....(dont kill a messenger!)

Some of you guys feel happy when you goin max, i was too, but im more like server runing 1 munth with no checks on it, and im happy with stable could systems, even on loadet systems :)

I rlly dont care abaut locks and unlocks, but some times im pist on locked electronics that protections cost more then a unlocked cpu, cmon.

I vote unlocked, coz i love allways do over-multipler cpus :up:
