Hi All

I'm swapping my E6600 this week for a Q6600 G0.

I'm gonna be fitting a D-tek Fuzion. My question is this, as things are with my Storm waterblock the motherboard bends slightly when I tighten the mounting screws.

Is it worth installing a backplate to prevent this and if so would I be able to fit it to the back of my striker extreme?

I'm looking at these 2 at the moment:

I've heard the Thermalright or Scythe backplates are pretty good.

Others will have first hand exp.

I use two of the Thermalright but Iany says that the Scythe is a better constructed piece.

The backplates are definitely worth buying, I will never use a CPU waterblock without one again.

lol one of the 2 you linked is in Plastic dude... Get the Metal one. It looks 100% like the Thermalright which is perfect. I am using it ATM.

I yoinked the backplate from my Scythe Ninja Rev A. Had to make the hole a little bit bigger with my drill before I could get the FuZion bolts through.

I use the plastic one shown; it's a Zalman. Plenty strong enough for a hardmount, and my board isn't distorted. Overall I find it better than most backplates available as there is nothing in the center to interfere with some of the solder points or surface mounted components that some boards have on the backside. Most backplates are made for heatsinks that weigh more than half a kilo. A waterblock ain't going to really stress them.

I like the Sythe SKURK1. Has to be drilled out slightly but works great with my Fuzion.

You only have to drill the holes out if you have the original FuZion mounting hardware. The hardware that the FuZion has been shipping with for months now employs thinner screws/bolts that easily pass through the holes in the Scythe backplate.

I use one on my test rig and my personal system--they work great. :)

I love the Scythe backplates. I've got two of them, and will probably need to order another one from Petra's soon.

You're telling me... We've been badgering D-Tek about those ever since they mentioned they were working on prototypes. Simply put, there have been some production problems but, last I heard, they were on track to be released "soon" (though, at this point, "soon" doesn't mean a whole lot  )

The Tuniq backpalte works fine. In fact the threads are the same as the bolts supplied with the Fusion. I just threaded the bolts up thru the back of the backplate without a washer on the bottom. Good thing too. @#$^ cat ran away with one washer so I needed one of the extras. :)

the backplate that comes with the cm hyper 48 has the same thread and works great

For those on the cheap side, i used my CNPS 9500 backplate, and it works fine. Just push out the nuts from the other side of the hole and it will pop out, then the Fuzions screws fit just as well.

do you guys think that backplates for socket 478 coolers would fit?
I don't have a socket 775 MB right now, just my 939. But I have a lot of old P4 coolers laying around.

A 478 backplate will not fit. I've tried.

Just use your stock 939 backplate. That's what I did. I used different bolts, washers, and nuts though because of the threading difference.... So maybe not a good idea, so nvm
