I have been unable to figure out how to unlock my P4 1.6ghz in this computer. Trying to overclock it via BIOS, but theres no FBS settings under the Advanced tab....infact nearly 70% of the neat stuff in my mobo manual isnt in there, thus I assume its locked. Anyone mind helpin me unlock it? =)

unlocking a p4 is impossible. period.
except if you have and engineering sample

You should be able to increase your Frontside bus. There is no way to unlock the multiplier. Which motherboard do you have?

I've got an ASUSTeK mobo
Model #: P4B266LA

Yeah, its crap. Blame the fact that I have no cash ^.^

i am wondering, is it even possible to unlock them?
i mean, with expensive equipment, etc.??
because if it is, i was thinking: start a business of "mass production" unlocking the p4's :toast:

If there was an easy inexpensive way to unlock them then it would have probably been done by now. I just don't think it would be worth the money and Intel would probably be gunning after you.

haha what are they gonna do?
threaten me? sue me?? haha
you can buy a honda and than put spoilers etc. on it, right?
its perfectly legal.
your right, there is no INEXPESIVE way, right?
but if you put it on mass production, :p
i dunno, maybe there is some way to do it with an Xray machine and a laser....

:p You cannot put back something that has been burned out of existence in the fab..

what exactly do you mean?
and what is "fab"?

The Multi's are set in the silicon at fabrication.. then when set, burned into the chip at the plant.

The multiplyer is locked because the "control" is burned so that it cannot be changed.

Afaik, there is no way around this... give it up, you're beating a dead horse.

haha...yeah i know.
it was just an idea i got :)
i wonder, how much would people pay for unlocked 1.6a's?
many p4 boards have fixed PCI dividers, so OC'ng theFSB would be pretty sweet....:( oh well

Of all people that buys Processors, MAYBE a half percent is overclocking. You are living in a dream world, m8.
Start sell water instead, more profit and more buyers.
