i wanna overclock it and see how far i can go. should be kinda fun.

what heatsink/fan combo do u think would be best with the IHS off?

i have an asus k8n mobo.

any other tips?

Thermaltake Big typhoon is a good choice.

what do u think of its potential for OCin'?

im pretty sure its 10 x 200

with a volt mod i bet i could get 2.6 maybe

i just have value memory 2 x 512 mb at 333mhz

Well, what motherboard you have? dont expect much out of value ram.

asus k8n nivida nforce 3 250 chipset

will the ZALMAN CNPS7000B work with IHS off?

trying to find the cheapest heatsink fan combo.

anybody got a used typhoon for sale?

I dont think the CNPS7000B will work due to the mounting. You should post the WTB section of this forum if you looking for a big typhoon (used cost around 25-30 shipped).

Yeah, you need a bolt through cooler. I had a Big Typhoon on my naked socket 939 3000 Venice, and one of those or a Thermalright cooler that uses bolt through mountings would be great.

If the value ram was DDR400 you have a chance at a decent OC. I got my opteron 165 to 2.81GHz on aweful OC'ing memory after all, just with a lot of divider and timing fiddling. (I think with better memory I could get faster too, always error out on the memory side of things when going any faster.) But DDR333 is probably going to hold you back more.

Good pics mate, im going to do the same with my Sempy 754 when i get the Infinity NF4X....The best 754 mobo imo.

its ddr400 memory its just defaluts to ddr333 because its a sempron board, for some reason it doesnt like 2 sticks. if i jsut have one stick it goes to ddr400.

yeah true looks like the big typhoon is my best bet for a bolt on coolers.

thanks ill let u know how it goes.

is there a heatsink that can fit in a small media center pc and still have the bolt type rention system?

the big typhooin is kinda big, looking for a small heatsink that will do a naked cpu.

Man my old Sempron 3100+ (1.8Ghz) 754 could do 2.9 all day long, and 2.6 with stock volts. Those things were overclocking beasts for what they were. Granted I had DDr500 memory.

Too bad they were still turds...

the zalman will work if u have a metal mounting bracket and mount it with the spacers off

it's easier to do it with a fan that has screws, if it has a click then you have to fill up the little clearance that's been created due to the removing of the HS..
this is kinda easier to do it on intel..

easiest if you use a bolt thru...i may try this with either my 3000+ newcastle or 3400+ clawhammer....but if its a good chip you could easily do 3ghz with a mild overvolt if not it will cap out with a 240HTT

I just popped my 2600+ IHS off yesterday :D Took about 1/2Hour, but worth for me. I can say that the idle temps lowered 4°C and load about 8°C.Pics:

get my the mobo in my sig, dfi nf3 250gb rulez!! and get 1gig in 1 stick, less stress on mem controller. the dramd drive strength will prolly be 2 when ur goin' for max mhz on ram
