I'm 14, and will be driving by myself in just over a year. I turn 15 in August. Wondering how long it took you all to get your own car/bikes whatever.

The first car I ever owned, I got at the start of my freshman year in college. It cost me $50.00 at the trashest car lot in southeastern Washington DC. It was a 1954 Ford with a Mercury V-8 engine and the car had been painted green with a brush. We worked for three hours getting it running and putting two (used) tires on it so I could drive it off the lot. It would cruse at 45 mph :) on I-95 in northern Va. :( But it was mine all mine. I had wheels!:D

In the U.S.A., the age to drive varies from State to State. For example:

Here in South Dakota, a minor living or working on a farm can begin driving at 13. At 14, anyone can get a learning permit which converts to a restricted license at 15, assuming you have no driving infractions and have successfully completed a driver training course. At 16, if you still have a clean driving record you get a full license.

On the other hand, in New Jersey you can't get licensed until age 18, although you can get a learner's permit before that.

when i was 15.5, I got my dad's 1991 Ford Tempo L. Sucked, all rusty and had no options. When I graduated High school I got a 1993 Chrysler Lebaron Convertible LX. Its nice and has every option imaginable.

My next car that I want is a 1984 Nissan 300ZX Anniversary Edition manual.

Just purchased, on my 15 y/o son's behalf, a 1965 Chevy C10. Sharp looking pickup, 327 four-barrel and a two-tone red & white paint job. Very "retro" looking!

I want a bike but my mom won't let me get one :(.

She works in the ER and says she see's too much stuff happening to drivers out of the ignorance of other people on the road.

I got my first car at 13; I can still remember watching the owner through the rearview mirror chasing it with a baseball bat in his hand.

I could probably ride one of those low hp motorbikes but you need a license for a motorcycle. To get to school i have to go down the highway so it would be strictly for fun...

Got my permit when I turned 16, didn't drive again until I was 17. Passed the test and had a 1990 Cavalier waiting for me, a nice get-around car as a gift from my parents (that was in 1997). In March of 2000 I bought (yes, all by myself) a brand new Camaro SS. The original Cavalier is now dead, and two years ago (September of 2001) I bought a 1994 Cavalier to replace it as my rain/winter beater.

So, I was driving a car when I was 17, and owning my first car when I was 19.
