I'd go with the G5.

I bought both of them.. Kept the G5. It feels so much better in the hand.

i personally prefer deathadder over g5 (the old g5 that is never tried the new one)

weights are 100% useless.

With the deathadder, my only real problem is the squeaking mouse wheel :|

Deathadder by far.

Laser mice still have issues with low sense tracking making them craptastic for games like quake/ut where low sense is still better.

Waiting on the MS sidewinder which all previews by actual gamers claim has fixed this issue, before I'd bother with a laser. I keep giving mine to the wife.

I just went from the G5 to the G9 and am loving it. You might want to take a look at that also.

Deathadder is the highest performing mouse out right now.

As for the squeaking mouse wheel, open it up and put a bit of WD40 on it. Don't spray it into the mouse, but onto a cloth to wipe on.

I love how clicky and responsive the buttons on this thing are. It gets really addicting and it doesn't feel right using my MX518 anymore.

deathadder seems great but i see the g5 has the weights and also you can adjust the dpi

Both features are useless. The weights can actually hurt your arm and the dpi adjusting you want to keep at a constant dpi. Get the DA.

sounds like deathadder is better choice its cheaper and doesnt have useless features

I don't use the weights in the G5, but I do switch the DPI resolution. Not during a game per se, but definitely between different applications.

thats what i want i want to be able to switch dpi easily instead of having to go thru drivers but the question is do i want to pay an extra 20 for it

I've been using the Deathadder for a couple of weeks now and I'm very impressed w/ it so far. The response time is very good and I love how smooth the movement is when I'm playing games. Once I got used to how quickly I was able to pan the screen around and move the mouse pointer from one target to another, my FPS skills have definetely improved quite a bit.

Oh and btw, I can set the side buttons in games. My MX518 never let me do that.

optical is so much better than laser, i use the old razer diamondback, this thing is awsome, i replaced my copperhead with this, and my copperhead replaced my G5......overall i would either go with a MX518 or a Razer diamondback.

I replaced a mx518 with the DA I find it to be alot more comfortable. I tried the G5 and the copperhead and didn't like either one.

what pad is better for the deathadder a razer exactmat or func archetype?

i see the razer is a little bigger, is made with aluminum and double sided vs. func's pad which is like 1 inch smaller, $2 cheaper, double sided, and it comes with a little thing to hold the mouse cord

My Deathadder is just as big as my MX518...it actually feels bigger in your hand because it rises up higher than the Logitech mice.

Ditto. I've tried them all and keep coming back due to the all important comfort factor. That or my hand's been molded from using MX5xx series for about 4-5 yrs. :D The surface stays cool and never warms my hand. After awhile of using the Deathadder, I can tell you 3 things.

1. It's optics are better than the MX518 and ANY of the laser mice. (not tried G9 yet)
2. The surface gets warm (3 of them), causes my hand to sweat, and become incredibly uncomfy.
3. The location/size of it's ass stresses my hand and eventually gets sore/numb. It may not look bigger than the MX518, but it sure felt that way to me!

today i got to touch the blue and black g5 i fell in love with the aged Spiderman love juice coating.
Fixed. :p:

Yeah the Deathadder is definetely bigger in your hand than the MX518.

I haven't noticed it getting too warm though, maybe it just doesn't bother me? I'll try to pay attention next time, but if I have to do that then it probably isn't something that is enough to catch my attention. No sweat here.

I got this mousepad from newegg and I am happy with it...

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817114174

one of the best I have used but I never spend too much on a mousepad, steel pad was my last. I went from the hard surface of the steel pad to this cloth like X trac. Its less "clothey" then any other cloth pad I have used tho and goes nice with the death adder right out of the box without drivers.

I recently posted saying that I never noticed my DA warm up, but I have to take it back..

it normally stays cool while surfing and until last week I hadn't noticed anything while gamming... but during very long sessions of TF2 it does get warm... although it seems to need a lot of action/deathmatch kind of gameplay to get warm

but it does get warm enough to disturb me on some of the hotter days... still love the mouse, just need to wait and see how bad it gets when summer arrives

it probably gets warms but your blood is pumping tryin to play the game to win

Do you guys use low sensitivity or high? I play with high because I have a big 24" screen to travel and it saves my wrist and shoulder. Maybe it heats up more with low sensivity...requiring more movement.

Jodiuh
09-25-2007, 06:07 PM
Maybe "heats up" isn't the best way to describe it. My hand will easily slide across the MX518's surface 5hrs into a LAN. The Deathadder's surface is not slick, it's more like a rubber coating. Combined w/ the glossy sides, it makes my hand feel 2 different degrees of sweaty. Not soaking, but enough to annoy me.

EDIT: The heat from the center of the mouse does bother me, but not nearly so much as the overall surface...especially on the sides. The MX518's not slick on the sides, but more of a slightly rough matte and it doesn't cause my finger tips to "stick" like the DA. I just want the DA engine, MX518 body, and G9 wheel/feet...is that too much!??

Screw the weights, leds, on-the-fly switching, etc....useless IMO

hoax
09-25-2007, 06:14 PM
sure the heat from holding it helps, but it gets much warmer then the hands so it must be creating some heat itself..

and yes, I use really low sens :)

As the former owner of a MX500, MX510, MX518, G5, and OCZ Equilizer...I am in love with my Razer DeathAdder. :)

It would be near perfect if they fixed the squeaking mouse wheel and made the mouse sit higher - the bottom will be very scratched up in a short period of time and makes a lot of noise.

Replacing the feet with something thicker would likely do the trick, as long as it is not too high to interfere with the lift-off distance which is extremely low.

Well, I got a chance to use the G9 and I know it's discussed much here...but it's uncomfy for even web browsing. If you have small hands it might work out, but my palm was draggin' the :banana::banana::banana: along on the pad...no good. :(
