Getting ready to replace the internal HD in my 17" iMac from a 160 to a 500...
found some tear down guides and looks like it should be fairly straight forward, but was curious if anyone here has done it?

Shoot Vapor a pm and ask him. I know he's worked on a lot of Mac's.

It should be fine, but watch the heat. My 120 gets nice and toasty.

i just replaced the drive, but now its not seeing the new drive... :( From the OSX reinstall cd's...

Edit:

I launched the disk utilty from the setup cd and it sees it there, trying to format now... and see how that goes... :)

which iMac was it? A G5 is much easier to do compared to an Intel-based one.

Yeah I had to format it with Disk Utility when I installed a new one in my MacBook. The restore CDs would not see the drive until it had a partition on the drive.
