Little bit of sandra @ 2785mhz / 174mhz fsb / 233mhz ddr.

Got some more testing to do later (got held up by having no arctic epoxy to mod the gfx card). Also ive found the 8z eval bios which will allow me to run enhance dram with the 2.9v I need to achieve 233mhz. Got a 3dmark run done at 2.94ghz, problem is the 3:4 mem divider gives me the best bandwidth.

MSI ti4600 arrived - currently runs at 321/723 stock cooled - thatll be changing later.

Currently scoring 13800 and 16400 give or take, but a few niggling problems to sort out. 28c room temp isnt helping my cause much either.

The raid is super quick - im besting 7200 raid rpm scores by a huge margin (have had a bench at 44500 according to sandra) using a pair of slimline silent drive maxtor 20 gig drives (5400rpm).

Ill have some better scores posted up over the next couple of days.

pilsy, is the it7 better in performance?
is it a higher OC'er?

So PiLsY this is where yo hang out now ehhh!!
What have you had out of that ddr400 with the IT7 then?
Looks like your going for macci with that rig, with the new agp and all.

Im going to email abit about this 224fsb ceiling with the bd7 II and If I don't get a straight answer its going back. Also does the IT7 undervolt like the bd7 or is it ok?

The BD7 doesn't have a 224 ceiling. I can tell you right now I did 232 on that mobo. The problem is the lack of voltage. With a V-mem it would achieve just as high of Mem Mhz as the IT7.

Hi Opp
Tried 3 seperate sticks of ram on the bd7 II and all stop at 224fsb at 2.7v,all 3 hit 230+ on the IT7 at the same voltage so there are diferences with the boards.
I have e-mailed Abit so I'll see what they have to say, but at the mo I do feel that the IT7 clocks the memory better.

Lo BT :)

Id have to go with Tony on this one Opp - this samsung stick also topped at 224 on the BD-7-ii @ 2.8v. On the IT7 it got to 228 using 2.8v and 232 using 2.9v. Cant go higher than 232 on this (174fsb) although I have a lot of voltage headroom on memory and cpu (1.775 / 2.9). I lose 1mhz fsb when using that enhance dram thingy on the 8z eval bios but gain a few 3dmarks.

And onto the GF4. Something is limiting my OC here too - probably voltage but im not sure. Im now at standard voltages but modded cooling. Got an SK6 with 60mm delta on the gpu and hacked up a P4 heatsink for ramsinks. What diff did it make? Not a lot. I can now bench at 325/720 instead of 320/720. Any higher and I get an infinite loop BSOD.

On the upside tho my suspicions prooved correct about the P4S333. Same components, same voltage (1.63 actual / 2.9v actual), 166mhz 3:4 instead of 150 4:5 . No more hdd errors either. With more voltage to the cpu (available on both boards due to vid pin mod) the P4s333 got me to 156mhz 4:5 stable enough for 3dmark (154mhz stable day to day) @ 1.83v actual and the IT7 got me to 174mhz 3:4 @ 1.76v actual and 186mhz @ 1.83v actual 1:1

The IT7 has also given me about a 33mhz cpu gain at any given voltage over the BD7-ii.

DDR400 w/ IT7 : 232mhz @ 2.9v using 2.5/5/2/2 / 230mhz @ 2.9v using 2.5/5/2/2 / Enhance Dram performance.

DDR333 w/IT7 : 232mhz @ 2.9v using 2.5/6/3/3 / 230mhz @ 2.9v using 2.5/3/6/3 / Enhance dram performance.

Reducing timings makes no difference but my suspicions lie with the board and not the memory. Check the mhz limit each time.

Max post speed @ what timings / voltage
DDR333 : 2.5/3/3/7 @ 3.1v : 247mhz
DDR400 : 2.5/2/2/5 @ 3.0v : 250mhz (board max)

I think the above illustrates that my suspicions about the board are correct. The DDR400 module gives far higher posting mhz, suggesting much more headroom in the memory. The DDR333 would appear to be approaching maximum at 232mhz. I wouldve expected another 5mhz out of it tho looking at the post mhz of 247.

Anyway, more tomorrow when whats leftover of last night has washed itself out my bloodstream.

The IT7 just got me a nice 243 :D

IT7 Mushkin 3000 @ 243mhz :D

Just wondering, you having any booting issues Pilsy? I've been trying the entire day today to find out why my IT7 just cuts the power off when pushed just a little too far then refuses to boot.

I don't know how many times i've wiped down the board with brake cleaner today OPP heh...

Nice work, really, I'm stunned :)
And I was already all happy when I got into windows at 202MHz :p

Maybe all boards are not equal as I now know of 5 people all stuck around 224fsb.Please be aware that i can get a sandra bench at 230 with my samsung but it fails at super pi and 3dmark at this speed, 224 is the rock stable max.

PiLsY
Nice to here from you, did you get my e-mail? I had a few questions for you. I e-mailed abit regards the under volting and 224 limit and at present they havent responded, I have tried the winbond and samsung in an IT7 and they are both good over 230fsb so at the moment I know its the board limiting my exploits.
I have also decided to get the new ati card when its out and hopefully show the rimm boy's that ddr can rearly kick @ss.
I may also water cool the northbridge and Gpu but this will entail changing the case on my prometeia so I havent fully decided on that one.

BTW I got the winbond from microdirect but it's major on third and was hoping for major/major so it could be better.

Was it stable?, as I stated I have run sandra at 230fsb but thats about all I could do,224 was the max ROCK stable speed.

OPPAINTER

Big Toe,

I forgot the max stable speed I had with the BD7 but I did deal with Abit on the Issue over a month ago thinking the mobo had a cut off limit. They told me it didn't and it could be the memory. I tryed 4 different types of memory and kept getting the same max speed so at that point I belived it to be the Mobo. I still think it's just a lack of mem voltage, I mean How high do think you can go at 2.65volts :D
Bottom line the IT7 is much better:)

Opp it looks like im covering old ground then?
I do rearly like the board apart from its undervolting, maybe a vdimm mod will bring out its best.

I'll see if a get a responce from Abit regards the undervolting and some questions on RMA and then I'll make my mind up.

i`m just wondering..
what is the max vcore setting do u get in the bios after doing the vid pin mod for the IT7???
i only get 1.85v as the max with Mr Natural`s modded bios afte doing the pin mod...

Cheers...

Looks like the p4t533 is landing in the uk in the next couple of day's so I think i'll hold off on the IT7 for a couple of months.Im also waiting for the 9700 Radeon so there will be some large outlay for a while.
My 1.6a is good for 180fsb in the prometeia so I may hit 3gig with the ram at x3 which should still give awesome bandwidth.
Samsung ddr400 looks to be shipping in 6 weeks so by then there may be a voltmod or new bios out for the bd7 II which will allow for ddr500 with the new ram.

Gonna have another play with it later see what i can do with sandra and maybe a bit more 3dmark as well

its not a BIOS limit
it wont go higher than 1.85 period. Actually a slightly lower BIOS reading even, more like 1.80 in real

well, still more then the 1.85v I'll need in the TH7 bios...

With 2.65v it's topping out on the BD7 II at 225fsb and just over 3400 in sandra pro.It is cheap memory though, so I can't rearly complain.

not that bad indeed ;)

do you know how it goes on an AMD rig?

to me is not very cheap.. here un italy.. :/ we can find only corsair and mushkin and pay them twice the prize...
have to order the winbond 's in UK.. hope they're worth and bettere than mushkin 3200

Only on p4 at the moment so I can't comment on AMD rigs.It is genuine ddr400 with -5ns chips so it should be good for 200fsb if not more.
