MSI teaching overclocking!!! (http://www.msicomputer.com/msiforms2/maxP35.asp)

I just installed a full XP now mods, 2006 Build, no updates!

Only Chipsets, GFX, 2.0 Net fix have been installed

Rig is

E6600 Lapped
X1900XTX CF
GTX>Pa120.3>DDC2 Alphacool res & Top, Yate loon x3
PC+P510w PSU
Cell Shock PC8500 2GB
Dell 2005FPW

This had been sat in customs for 2 weeks judging by dates on packing! Was sent it by a mistery lady called XXXX

Bord has lots and lots of LEDS and very colorfull!

Photos of it in my half assed setup, bench table has been delayed and still unsure on case so Azza (CPC) case it is!

^ Everything in BIOS was loaded at optimised defualts. Under SUPER PI CPU was @ 2.4ghz not whats shown as BIOS controls of Speedstep and Eist and D.O.T Control took over after load passes.

Right on with clocking the beast

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/corsapete/MSI%20P35%20Neo%202/P35-2.jpg

2nd go, bang in at 400FSB

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/corsapete/MSI%20P35%20Neo%202/P35-3.jpg

Oh all RAM timings there are by SPD!!! Not one touch yet by me! STD shipping bios too.

Need more cooling, some Vmods to least see whats really going on volt wise

Thats the max i have gotten so far. WC kit need to settle in a bit i think, i need to understand more on what i am doing and defo RAM as i have no idea!

PSU im awaiting a PC+P 750w quad CF cert to come in.
XP i need to make a new benching version, sub 100mb.
PCI GFX card only as will make things a bit faster!

Im happy with it so far, to boot into 400 and 412 out the box is good. My P5W DH Deluxe with mods doesn't at all go past 400 via BIOS.

One feature which i found odd but intresting with the mobo, it will keep trying to boot even if it fails. Im sure this will prove self desructive soon but time will tell.

Right lets find a new BIOS

Anyone eles that wants to help please do.

Sorry for crapness, new camera is on it's way!

They all change as and when you boot, re-boot, and other things. Probs mean something but i dont care!

All that is mine on Saturday, whoooo. Currently using a Canon Powershot S2 IS thats been flashed and with a UV hood and lens.

Google needs more info on DRR2 RAM timings and the manual does as well, i am so confused. Guess i will have to play with it and see what works and doesn't! Grr

Yeah and no, there is an 8 pin thing on there, 2 ports are covered to only use a 4 pin. It's righ under the 2 heatpipes and is a PITA to fit!

I found the new Memset for P35's, seams to be the final build so i shall give it ago inabit as i have things to do. MSI shoow the bord doing 500FSB, i have seen one other doing 479fsb.

We shall see. Might try and see what this multi option really does in bios if it will change it or not hehe

08-27-2007, 05:59 AM
That last comment was surely true for the M6N Diamond version, prolly due to bad bios design... I think the regular NEO is not so good at overclocking, this one could rival the P5K vanilla...

Keep us posted Pete

nice mobo, but is there any real diff. between the NEO2-FR\FIR and the Platinium version, forget about the circuit pipe and optical audio, i dont really car for the last, but i mean a difference in overclocking capability/ performance and such things..
im going to a new mobo from msi and im confused which is better in performance, since as i noticed that on the mobo pic. at msi site u can read "P35 Platinium" on what is supposed the P35 Neo2, so does that mean they are actually the same layout??

Pete
08-27-2007, 08:39 AM
It's way better than my Asus P5W DH so far! 412fsb right in there. I guess it's only bord options on differnt models etc.

The heatpipes could be better and not sure what aftermarkt cooling will replace but it's cheap and does go some.

Same chipset

Same could be said for all the Asus P5 :banana::banana::banana:! The all the 965, 975 and then X38

I was doing some quick benchs just to compare the memset scenario.
This was done with a Asus P5KD. I only adjust the first 4 parameters of the memory, the others were set at AUTO.
The command rate was set to 2T.

This is with Transaction booster DISABLED(relax 0)/Dram Static Read Control DISABLED. (Worst scenario)
http://www.subirimagenes.com/imagenes/previo/thump_13932563800disabled.JPG (http://www.subirimagenes.com/imagen-de-3800disabled-1393256.html)
And this was done with Transaction booster AUTO/Dram Static Read Control AUTO. (Best scenario)

As you see in my best SPD scenario, my performance level is the same as yours, but the others subtimings are to high in your motherboard .
Does MSI give you access to subtimings configuration in bios?

By the way, nice spi... keep pushing

... well, it depends. I believe the Neo 865P motherboards were kick ass, but then was followed by a disappointing neo 965P which couldn't overclock for crap, and now this :p: .this doesn't look that bad. =)

Long day but least i have a new company van to rag about and new company car tormrow, perks of my job!

Right PSU i forgot to do, will do latter

Im still on the original bios, MSI are so friking gay you have to be online to do it when my rig aint and wont be for a bit...this is there biggest draw back. T****sers

I think i can pull sub 13 vergin on 12.xx maybe les when i fondel with timings. might try latters we shall see boys

I got it too boot in the end at 3.9, 444 fsb but it's doggy as hell. Got to be my PSU as it's making some nasty noise at times as well.

Still yet to fondel with RAM timings but i got a 12.XXX super pi but i was unable to get a screen shot.

Need a clock gen/setfsb for the P35 is there one?

I think i will play with the 4 set of timings only and see what happens.

Still running the single card till new PSU arrives

I found a hidden bios menu.
If you press F4 in the core cell menu,
a power user mode will appear.

Inside the menu :

I Googled MSI Skew and all i saw all the time was . . .

Skew Mode = slower

There is an old English saying as well of
Skew If, if i can remeber back to when my Grandad use to say it i think it ment Flipping heck or something.

It looks like it's soemthing to do with both cores in that screen :banana::banana::banana: as it's listing 0 and 1, if you had a quad in there i guess it might be 0,1,2,3

I'm using the new CPUz that came out today, shows i got a 2T command on RAM yet in BIOS i see no option to chnage to 1T..any ideas?

hmm, maybe thats why when I change the values,
it becomes more stable.
But the values avaliable are 0,1 even though i'm using a quad.

Andy thanks for the memset, i shall try it tonight when i get home from work!

Dinos22 yeah not too bad at all, did play a little last night and shocking how much of huge chnage timings make!

Need sort new cooling for SB, NB, Mosfets, i checked brefly and i don't think the the EK Asus 3 mosfet fits, soemthing water wise has got too or decent air at least.

NB i think runs cool but i'm already pumping max bios volts into it.

I'd love to upgrade the bios, i think they might give more options

Also i need volts mods, read points more that anything so i can see what the bord is like but i think 1.85v on the NB might allow some huge overclock.,

Max so far i had on my E6600 was 445fsb, i might try with the multi lower again

Hi, I am also owner this mobo.
First, i'm sorry but my english isn't so good because i'm from Poland. :(

I can do with this mobo fsb 550 MHz at multiplier 6x stable in SuperPI 32M. :)
Unfortunately above 520 I have huge performance fall even I set h/w jumper up 333. Everest shows me memory read 31xx MB/s instead about 9xxx MB/s. :/
Only method to gain good performance is to boot from <520 and use SetFSB.
In my case it demands VNB above 1.525v.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/lyzkov/Intel%20Core%202%20Duo/6x550.png

I have stability problems with high Vcore at so high fsb. I think that it's mobo fault. Maybe some NB core vmod could solve this problem?

Did anybody test settings available in power user mode? Does it improve stability or perfomance in superpi/syntetic benchmarks?

Jumper change strap (internal chipset timings) for obtaining high fsb. I heard that this helps in overclocking cpu with fsb 266 or 200. Then fsb regulation begins with 333 MHz. In my case (processor with fsb 333) I haven't observed any difference between jumper sat to 200/266/333.

Any 3D bench to share? :D

Hmm... found my previous one on my E4300.
I dunno how to tweak spi,
only set affinity and realtime thats all.
Tonight i'll try on my 6600. :)

I find that SuperPI time very worrying for me as my E6600 at 3.6 never gets even close too that, not even at 3.8Ghz... with ram at 900mhz 3-3-3-9 1T on 680i and surely not an a 2Mb cpu

Is there a way to fix the "double-boot" issue? OC jumpers are set to 333MHz. At stock everything is fine but for example 420FSB and it double-boots. You restart the computer and it turns off, then on for a split second, then off and then ON.
Also when cold booting.

I have the latest 1.6v BIOS isntalled.
Any fixes out there?

Humm so enter Bios, Cell Menu then just F4...

I Googled MSI Skew and all i saw all the time was . . .

Skew Mode = slower

There is an old English saying as well of , if i can remeber back to when my Grandad use to say it i think it ment Flipping heck or something.

It looks like it's soemthing to do with both cores in that screen :banana::banana::banana: as it's listing 0 and 1, if you had a quad in there i guess it might be 0,1,2,3

Skew-whiff is English slang used for describing somthing thats crooked or off-kilter you don't hear it used much anymore

Clock skew is a bit more technical

I resurrected coz I know your dying to know definition of skew-whiff, long time since I heared that term used,
I remember my driving instructor used to tell me my steering was all skew-whiff, but I still passed the driving test
first time, sorry to hear your asus boards also gone skew-whiff :)
