how can you log.........

a question how can you log, what files and registry keys a program accesses and I mean including hidden files and windows settings, I got a few programs here that I don't quite trust, and I want to make 100% sure that there not messing with stuff.
Is there anyway to do this in windows xp?

Get jv16 power tools 1.4 Release Candidate 2 (or wait a few days for the final). Use the Registry Monitor feature of the Registry tool. http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/index.php

Includes registry change logging - and while it doesn't monitor files, the files aren't much danger if you kill the registry keys. Free ;)
