Yes, this MB is easy to play with.

Now working hard with my DFI p35-T2R, and tonight get it stable at 500FSB with my E6600, can prime for 1hr, need some time to cope with DFI. :D

yep those dfi board can be a bit tricky at first, but when you figure out its secrets.. they rock :rocker:
looking forward of hearing your opinion about the new dfi p35 board. :)

My Q6600 G0 runs sweet at 3.6 with 1.38V. The thing is this Ultra 120E is just not doing a good enough job cooling...(all 4 cores at 66 at 100% load). Looks like I might have to look into a water setup. I know one thing DVD Shrink smokes with the proc clocked up....like 3:30 mins to encode at 50% compression a full DVD. These quads are a beast.

Hopefully next BIOS will fix this. This is why I moved my OS from RAID to a single HDD. But yes, it really sucks not having RAID with high OCs.

I have P5K Premium and Q6600 G0, too.
I also have 2x1GB DDr2 1066 Crucial BallistiX Tracer (goes 1200mhz+ with stock 2.2V).
I don't know why I cannot pass 460-470FSB for the CPU. There is a limitation in the CPU?
The cpu goes 3800mhz and maybe more, as long as I don't pass 470FSB..
Maybe there are some special settings to do in bios ?

YES, quads tend to have FSB limitations, only a few can do over 500FSB, most stay between 460 to 490.

I'm considering buying one, but I want a fsb up to approx. 550. Can these boards - or your board - do that?

I tested it can run at 543FSB, but it is the fsb wall of cpu rather than the MB, I am sure. I dont have a cpu can run higher FSB, so I can't test the limit of the MB. ;)

Hi. Nice OC there...

Is the p5k premium & deluxe guides the same?

I just bought a premium & am lost for finding any good info on this board like how they have the P5w DH & Gigavyte P35 threads...

any help appreciated...
This board is replacing my P35-DS4 & relegating my p5w dh to my parts bin...

Also swapped my pos Q6600 B3 for a G0 stepping one...

sorry for thread hijack

In addition to this thread you could try this one http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=151965 which is for P5K Premium and covers gerneral information but this thread has better information for o/c the Q6600 with the Premium.
On another general note this arcticle should provide answers to any questions on Tcase,Tjunction and safe maximum temperatures for quad and other CPUs before you toast them with overclocks -lol!. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/221745-11-core-temperature-guide

FSB STRAP TO NB-333<---is this ok?
depends upon what divider you want to use and what ram you have in your hand. e.g.
266strap: 1:2, 2:3, 4:5
333strap: 1:1, 5:6, 5:8

266strap have tighter latency and also higher performace.

TRANSACTION BOOSTER-AUTO<------set to what?
It is about the performance level of P35 chipsets, but Asus use another way to present in the BIOS. You can always check/set it against the memset3.3 in windows. The lower the performance level, the higher the performance, but remember to check the stability too. If you do not sure, you can leave it to AUTO and check against with the memset3.3 :D

CLOCK OVERCHARGING MODE-AUTO<------set to what?
I find this will help for Quadcore near the FSB wall, to get my Q6600 more stable at 500FSB, it helps after I set it to 1.0V. But seems not very helpful to dual core.

Bah... i was so anxious to get my new rig up & running & guess what??

I get a damn dead board.......

spent 2-3 hours putting everything together & then tried to boot & nudda, nothing...

Tried with all components I have & board spins but no post...

checked everything on my 2nd PC & all works cept for that damn new mobo...

Just my luck this week... OCZ FlexXLC9200 dies... Logitech G15 k/boar4d croked & now a new board that won't work...

Hopefully be updating this thread with some decent OC with my new G0 Q6600 (I did a shifty & swapped my B3 for this G0)...

B3 Q6600 would not do 333fsb... this one doing 360 at default volts...

Gonna try my E6600 as well on replacement board...

enough hijacking. mext pst from me will be how good of a board the p5k & my e/q6600 is :p

It allows you to adjust your memory timings & chipset related latencies/settings in real-time within Windows..
You can also use it to save the settings after test and load them on boot. Download link http://www.benchzone.com/page.php?al=asus_p5k3_deluxe_review&pg=19

New BIOS 0402 released for P5K Premium which seems to cure all HD problems except samsung. May have other improved features which might help with memory compatibility. Try it and post results. Remember not to use ASUS update - I screwed a deluxe using that and I suspect the premium would go the same way!. Copy BIOS to USB pen drive and use Ezflash to update after clearing CMOS.

Glad to hear it but I would recommend you do not us Asus update in future as you may get a flash verification failure. As the chip is soldered to the board it would then be a nice piece of art to hang on your wall cos the BIOS would be dead. The P5K deluxe has a known problem with verification failing using update and its not a lot different from this board so it it safer to give it a miss and use Ezflash or afudos. I am not the only one giving this advice and all other non window options are safer. http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/archive/index.php?t-55.html

I have discovered if you make a boot disc with nero, and use the nero boot image,if you boot from the disc it can read ntfs partitons.Would this be ok to do it in the future? i can just put the flash files in a folder on one of my drives and run it after booting from the boot disc.

Also,i have 2 250gb samsung hdd's,how do i set them up in a matrix raid 0/1 setup?

I just got this board with a 0204 bios and it worked fine with my WD drives. either I am lucky or because the drive with the operating system is a 250GB KS drive.

I am using the PC6400 reapers as well (those things can run at 4-5-4-13 at 980mhz 2T)

Either that or a USB drive with Ezflash. Anything but doing it from Windows - lol!

Lots of post about problems with samsung HDD and raid on the P5K premium- not everyone is getting them but be aware before you start! Might be worth backing up before you start in case you have a problem and have to go back to Sata=IDE.

I found that the install seemed a lot slower than when I did an install with it set to IDE but it gets there. So dont panic if you think it is going slower . I did but learn from my mistakes -lol!

Read Enter the MAtrix - or some of it at the begining cos it long! http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=467848 . To setup matrix go into bios and set sata to raid. then reboot and matrix storage manager will come up. Hit control+I and setup your raid 0 and raid 1 volumes. About 80GB for raid 0 and the rest for RAID 1. Make sure you have a floppy or usb with the ICH9R raid driver on it - use make floppy from the board install disk. Resinstall Vista or XP - vista - select load driver when you reach install screen - XP hit f6. Once loaded your all set - remember to install the Intel matrix storage manager - latest downloads here http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101 .
Run HD tune or tach and see your performance increase - makes you very happy-lol!. Its worth getting Acronis TRue Image 11 home http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
to create and manage a backup/restore copy of the operating system cos raid 0 can be prone to failure moreso than a single drive. With Acronis you can create a bootable USB backup and a lot of other things too. Have as much fun as I did-lol!

TinTin,

Ive got this board (0402 bios.) and Im trying to get my Q6600 G0 (1.2125VID) small FFT stable at 4ghz.

It will run blend @ 4Ghz no problem with only 1.5v and ran 3.980Ghz with 1.52v Small FFT .

With just a small increase in FSB from 443 to 445 the pc will restart after a few seconds of small FFT's and Im trying all sorts of different bios options to fix it without success. Load temps are in the low-mid 60's before it reboots.

Any ideas? I noticed you ran 30mins small FFT at 4005.

Do you think it is my motherboard limit ? Not sure why it doesn't just fail prime rather than rebooting.

I thought it may be FSB wall but I can get it upto 515 with x8 multi.

It is not limited by MB, it will reboot rather than giving you a error message when CPU is unstable, I tested for many Core2duo or Core2quad with many different MBs, having such symptom.
It is one of the best MB for Quad I have ever used, some MBs even can't boot at 460FSB or above with the same quadcore CPU. ;)
