I have a 2x1GB kit of OCZ Platinum RAM (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227210)). It runs fine at stock speeds on 2.7v, but once I try to hit DDR430, with voltage ranging from 2.6 to 2.8, combined with looser timings than the stock 2-3-2-5-1T, I get errors in Memtest86+. I've tried timings as loose as 2.5-3-3-7.
Based on reviews at newegg, people consistently hit 230MHz/DDR460 on stock timings with this kit. So, naturally, I feel like I have a subpar kit. Not to mention, I actually RMA'd a first kit to Newegg, which had a stick that couldn't even handle stock timings. I've grown unhappy with this particular model of RAM. I happen to have an opteron 175 that can hit 2.9 on air, even more potentially. But right now I don't have the RAM to do so.
I want RAM with tight timings and that overclocks well. Please share any alternative 2x1GB kits you know may be work well.
Also, I'm not too savvy about dividers... my performance needs are mostly for gaming (CSS, Battlefield 2), not hitting high benchmarks. Should I just keep the kit and run a divider to OC my chip?
Thanks in advance for the advice!
