rig in my sig.
ambient temps are high in my basement in summer, hitting 80F with humidity regularly - which is killing my air cooling, even with a lapped ninja.
this Q6600 i just got has headroom. i was running at 3.6ghz with 1.42v or so and plowing through prime small fft's for an hour but i was at the temp threshold of 71.
i am running it at 3.3ghz with 1.36-1.375v and temps with small fft's are 65. with blend of course temps are way lower, probably more real world usage but still.
i have plenty of air circulation going, with an antec tri-cool on hi mounted on the ninja pushing out the rear and the rear exhaust also on hi.
from reading on here and other forums it seems some people think the swiftech h20-120 premium will not give any performance boost. is that true?
i read other people who seem to contradict this.
i want to set up a more advanced WC rig but with the p180 case and the amount of stuff i have in it (adding another hard drive in soon) it is not possible to get a real hardcore WC setup in here without some serious modding i dont want to do.
id rather wait a couple years when i do a full overhaul to buy a nice big tower case friendly to WC'ing and do it up right, with a block on my GC as well. in the meantime, i just want to cool the q6600 and get more of the speed i know it has in it, these G0's are sick.
so, considering my budget is basically the same as the swiftech kit i mentioned, will i just end up getting the same performance as my ninja? or will i help my load temps.
i did do a lot of reading, and i read contradictions on this so i am asking. and yes i know, people will say go custom but i really dont have the money right now. just got my other 2 sticks of ram and the q6600 and i am close to broke.
