Hi, got my E6850 today and i ended up with this.

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=221507

But,well ok it is enough! but i want more out of it, this is XS? so this another guy with the SAME cpu batch and same MB, could get 4.3+ with the cpu but mine is stopping at 4.2 in windows, wont get any further with anything else, (tried).

and another one got 4.4 with a P35 board... therefore my question.

Does p35 OC better? generally? if i would like to squeze 100mhz more would it help to get another MB? Im in no hurry, got this cpu that i were going to keep until the Wolfsdale is coming, and buy me a X38 when it comes soon.

generally p35's will have a higher top end fsb and overclock quad's better, assuming again fsb limited.

so that said, you probably won't see much for your e6850. there's obviously variances in o/c ability, even within the same batch.

then again, i've noticed a strange occurence on my dfi p965 board, where my e6750 will do 8x400 with 1.38v, but going higher, I seem to hit a brick wall immediately. changing vsb buys little bits of stability. So I have a feeling a different board might allow me to creep higher. if you're not hitting a brick wall of sorts, then p35 probably won't help much.

if you're not wanting to wait for x38 and want a good p35, wait a week for the dfi lanparty to come out

not to mention they natively support penryn.

some 965 boards will, but the jury is still out

I am hitting kind of a brick wall .. thats the thing :)

MB, can also be variating like Cpus, though not as much, but it happends more then often.....soo

My brick wall is like this.. i can go 4.1, 4,2 boot over 4,3 ...but at 4.3 it just wont do jack shajjt :) wont get in win nomather what i do with the board..

so maybe a new board might help.... i got a pair of XMS2 mems at 800mhz, but they will do 1000mhz i had it like that for a long time with my 6300, but can the mem be sensitive when the cpu speed is increasing? even if they can do a certain speed....

really strange mem i got , can do 500, then it just dies, now im in cas 4 @ 912mhz 2.2v.

SLA9U , L722A186 it is.

I've settled down now on 4.1Ghz and 1.65v
but it seems it can go more....it aint over till the fat lady sings!

Do you think an E6850 will boot and run on a Gigabyte P965 DS3 Rev.1? I have an E6850 on order due to arrive on Monday.
It's not officially supported as the later revisions are with the F12 Bios, but I want to try:rolleyes:

i can't remember if ds3 can boot if microcode is not there. but i do remember on bioses before 1333bsel support, it wouldn't post. and with 1333bsel, it'd post at 266fsb, at least with ink mod. tested was f7 and f9/10 personally.

that said, even if f12 isn't listed for rev1, i see no reason it wouldn't work for your board.

and f10 supports 1333bsel from what i remember, so assuming it has the microcode for g0 / it can boot even without it being in the table, then you should be fine.

personally, i'd post in the gigabyte threads if f12 will work on rev1, although again i see no reason it wouldnt

Got my word, for the price its not worth it, then you should go DQ6
but if the money isnt the thing, go Asus :)

Does anyone know when the new dfi p35 board will be available!

For a quad switching over to P35 might be worth it but not for dual core imo. I have reached the exact same max FSB and clocks on P35 gigabyte as with the commando and me E6600. Only as far as max mhz for cpu is concerned that is. Taking ram into consideration P35 rocks because at last all the dividers work.

Thanks for the excellent reply ziddey.
And for the Gigabyte thread suggestion. Hope to have the E6850 Monday morning so I will post my results then:cool:
