I have read numerous conflicting reports of this bios option.

(PECI)

all I know is that when its enabled my temps go down 15c.
can anybody explain? whats the general consensus to accuracy? on or off
I also don't have access to a temp probe to accurately test..

thanks

I think it depends on your board - from what ive read, the core temp (reported by core temp) is supposed to be ~10 - 15*C hotter than the Tcase (middle top of IHS, reported by ASUS Probe etc) due to temperature gradients existing through the core-->IHS. If your mobo temp monitoring software reports a temp ~10-15*C higher than core temp does, try enabling PECI, which should correct the temperature reading overshoot. On some boards, it makes no difference. Personally, I just go off core temp.

i personally have it on. since i think that the cores should be hotter than the IHS. since asus probe read the IHS, not the core. and the heat is conducted inside. so yeah.. i say core (hotter) than IHS.
