I'm in the market for a new 22'' wide screen monitor, with a budget of about $350. I have pretty much narrowed it down to these two Samsung models:

and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096

I know the 226BW has better specs but the 225BW has a better aesthetic look and would match that of my current monitor which I intend to set up a dual screen set-up with. So my real question is; Would there be a noticeable difference in image quality? Also, if you have any other suggestions for different monitors feel free to advise.

The 226BW beats the 225BW by miles, Honestly, i'd get this LCD.

The only 22" LCD's that seem to be really recommended anymore are the Samsung and LG models, with the LG being the best according to reviews. I thought my Sceptre was pretty sweet though which I will be selling soon.

Please keep in mind though that all 22" monitors use TN film panels which have viewing angle problems.

The Samsungs have a lot more reviews, but they have also been on the market longer.

Has there been any reviews that prove that LG is better then the samsungs?

What about Chi Mei, they have great prices for their 22" 5ms 1680x1050 monitors?

ive looked into the lg vs samsung (a little)
depends on the model and whether the 22" actually has an lg-philips panel or an actual samsung made panel (lol) because 22" are so common both companies have substituted 3rd party panels from chi mei/chunghua/au optronics....so basically all lg or samsung 22" panels of the the same product code are NOT alike.
I came to the conclusion that the difference between lg-philips panels and samsung panels are very minor... both companies also use their own RTA (response time acceleration) type of technology that tries to boost response time and eliminate ghosting effects.

Having seen both LG and samsung 22" instore i would take the LG based on its still picture appearance. but i didnt fiddle with color/contrast and i have no idea which does better in games/video ie response times. and i did not identify which panels were used on the ones that i saw.

Most people it seems vote for samsung.

so it's pot luck either way whether u get lg or samsung. If u order online you'll only find out when the thing arrives by looking at the panel codes on the back as to what you have actually been sold.

If you want 'guaranteed' quality in tft panels you needs must pay more :) and probably go for 19/20" or 24"

I'd honestly try to avoid the TN panels if your concerned about color and image quality but you might not be too demanding. S-IPS panels you probably won't find for that price but they do have the best overall color quality. Your best bet would be a P-MVA panel at 20 inches. These are the best overall panels for games, movies, color reproduction etc. I have a Viewsonic vx2025wm and this is regarded as one of the best if not the best 20" P-MVA panel. Viewsonic unfortunately put the cheap TN panels in their new vx2035wm but you can still find the vx2025wm online at some retailers.

Regarding size. A 20" 1680X1050 will look sharper than a 22" 1680X1050 because it will have a smaller pixel pitch. Although you might also want to consider viewing distance. I sit exactly 24 inches away from my monitor and it is just the right size. Nice and big, can read the text perfectly and I'm not turning my head side to side to view the whole screen. If your sitting anywhere over 28-30" away from the monitor then you might want to start thinking about 22". So I guess viewing distance really is the most important thing.

BeHardware does some in-depth and detailed reviews on monitors and I highly suggest you take a look at these 2 reviews:

http://www.behardware.com/articles/662-1/22-inch-lcd-monitors-the-second-coming.html
http://www.behardware.com/articles/619-1/updated-survey-13-lcd-20-5-6-8-16-ms.html

The first review is of nine 22" LCD panels and the second link is a review of thirteen 20" LCD panels which includes the Viewsonic vx2025wm.

Enjoy. I am sure these 2 reviews will end up being very valuable to you. Cheers!
