The hardware will be something like this, very similar, maybe bump up a model or down, etc, etc.

C2Q Q6600 (may become a qx6850 if the 22nd price drops are enough to bring it down)
Asus P5K Deluxe
One 2x1gig set of Ballistix, and another 2x1gig set that i have (gskill 8000)
8800gtx (still debating sli or not)
1kw PSU (decathlon or enermax galaxy)
and finally...mm horizon case

the WC setup i have in mind is:
EK 8800gtx full cover blocks
dtek fuzion
pa 120.3
masterkleer 7/16
EK res250
all EK high flow barbs
G11 Pentosin, PT_nuke, and DTEK dye
pumps: ddc 3.2 with petra top
EDIT: forgot, yate loon 120s
EDIT: forgot, steel worm drive clamps and zip ties
EDIT: alphacool bigNG
EDIT: filter (just for setting up and cleaning components)

should i go for a dual loop or single loop? 2xpa120.3 is possible if i tell them to customize the case.

pumps: should i get the D5 (which are more reliable, but sacrifice performance) or 4 DDC 3.2s and two petra tops (of course using two in my loops and two extras).

i will post in the general hardware section regarding my HW setup soon, but i think the cooling should be pat down before i start wiggling with my config.

im looking for as much criticism as possible, so everything will work out. feel free to change anything!
thanks in advance.
edit: what barbs do i need for the SLI cards?

Looks good, but just to let you know you can't go SLI on P35 boards (...yet)

Other than that, it's fine... one PA120.3 will be plenty for just a CPU and one GTX.

For barbs on an EK block, they come with them if you order from EK.

For pump, it's up to you. I like the look of D5s better, (and you can adjust flow/noise) but DDC are more powerful.

what buff said, and will those 2 memory combinations work?!?!?

justin_c
07-14-2007, 03:16 PM
RAM: yes, they should work, may put a bit of extra pressure on NB, but ok.

how about for two cards, one pa120.3 and one pa120.2 or two pa120.3s

i need a shroud for the rads right?

for the quad core you'll want a 120.3 in its own loop.
So yes go for two loops.
And yes go for 2x 120.3.
A shroud is optional.

How is the track record for the D5 and performancewise in comparison to a ddc3.2 with a petra top?

click here if you want to see the numbers (warning! painful):

my guilt:3425.48 w/o tax, and w/o wiggling (dealing).

what i might fudge on:
two 8800s (ultras or gtxs): ruling out cause there is g92 coming out and not worth spending that much extra. or should i just go for it right now...i could stepup the 8800gtx and get one g92, then get another g92 separately. 3 months time till g92?

q6600 or qx6850: ruling out because the q6600 is so cheap and G0 shows lots of potential. plus, penryn is coming!!

evga 680i mobo: to SLI or not to SLI? go p5k if not SLIing? well with the news that x38 won't support SLI, the only board then with SLI support will be the 680i.

PSU: which 1kw psu?

thanks for reading through this thread! all types of criticism welcomed.

Sli only for one big monitor at high resolution.

got fp241wz, 1920x1200.

Cool.
I love my evga680i anyway with or without sli.

yep, cause i dont think upgrading at a time when penryn, g92/ati equivalent, and x38 are being released is a smart choice.

any other opinions?

Get the Enermax Galaxy DXX! 24amp 12V rails, incredibly stable. I've got one on the way.

please check the fittings/sizes, because i dont want to screw up and order again (i live in canada). thanks for your time....

>>>>revised WC list:

dtek fuzion, 1/4" threaded ports
ek full cover 8800gtx, 1/4"
two ek 680i chipset blocks, 1/4" (delrin or acrylic?)
two laing d5/mcp655 vario pumps (can anybody confirm if i can just get the basic version, cause i'm going to use a alphacool bigNG to control two of these).1/2" barb fittings?

ranker, if your reading this, where did you get the alphacool flowmeter? not available @ PPC.

two EK res200s (clone38, can you confirm that these are short/tall enough fit in the horizon, or should i go for the 250s?)
two pa 120.3s (from thermochill directly, neoprene gaskets included), 3/8"

18 dtek 1/4" thread-1/2" OD (dteks better than ek? chrome vs nickel?)
i can't find any barbs with G1/2" thread for the swiftech pumps; i guess they mean 1/2" OD?
do i need ek thread spacers: http://petrastechshop.com/ekthspforg1f.html , maybe order a few just in case?
and how about thread plugs?

pentek in-line filter: 3/8" NPT, petra offers an option to add 1/2" fittings, this will only be used for about a week to clear out any garbage in my loop, then it will be removed.

lots, and lots of of 7/16" ID, 5/8" OD tubing (is tygon worth it over masterkleer, both have a bend radius of 1 3/4").

steel worm-drive clamps, lined.
AC MX-1 TIM.
gallons of distilled water, and distilled vinegar.

few drops of PT_Nuke biocide, and G11 Pentosin (blue), with dtek dye (ok to mix colours?)

11 scythe sflex SFF21F 63.7 cfm, 28 dba (will be tuned down). these are open corner fans, just a confirmation. in push config for radiator.

12mm black fan grills.
6 fan filters for the radiators, as the others will be in exhaust configuration.

you know what, the fans are going to cost me over 100 bucks. GAHHH!!!! theres gotta be a batch discount for fans. maybe just scythes for the rads, and yates for the rest?

goto the hardware store, get a t-handle and tap...wait, i'm tapping the hole of the radiator right? isn't that not safe?

I special ordered from mcubed's store. However, I'd advise against using it. Almost all flow meters end up contributing towards a significant pressure drop. In the end, I just connected the RPM cable to the Sensorbus' flowmeter port and monitored that instead.

I'd also advise that you get the miniNG as well as it is much more suitable for handling pumps. The BigNG can handle pumps but if its maximum wattage per channel is exceeded, it switches to PWM mode which could result in damaging your pump. I use 1 pump on my BigNG and I wouldn't connect more than 1. My other pump is connected to the MiniNG.

I'd also advise you to get the Delrin tops as acrylic tops can be dangerous to work with if you're not experienced with the maximum mounting pressure for the given block and the various mounting techniques used.

this is the electric setup im thinking of:

one bigNG and one miniNG.

miniNG controls the two d5/mcp655 pumps and two rad fans.

bigNG controls 4 rad fans and senses the temps at pump and rad.

two sunbeam rheobuses control exhaust fans and two uv cathodes.

I have an affinity for acrylic tops; dangerous, or more less "exercise caution"?

again, thanks for your top advice.

bump, check list above please.

justin,

Get the four DDC3.2s w/ tops. Don't rely on two D5s. Even with D5s, you still need redundancy because D5s die as well.

If you really like acrylic tops, have a look at the Alphacool dual pump tops. They save you space and you still get the redundancy. Performance will be better with four separate pumps though. The Alphacool tops are the equal of the Petra tops, so which your preference is good.

ok, quoc says i need to send in my list soon because it is an international order and to reserve my stuff:

6x scythe sflexes (fast speed) (rads)
5x yate loons (exhaust/intake case)

dtek barbs, no ek barbs

2x 8800gtx ek full cover blocks, acetal (i'll be careful)

3 ddc 3.2 with pts, two in loop, one for backup.

two ek 680i chipset blocks (one for each bridge)

loop order:

res>pump>rad>q6600>nb>sb>res

res>pump>rad>8800 ultra>8800 ultra>res

7/16, 5/8 tygon

i am considering a third loop for the nb/sb with a single 120 rad; or its ok with a quad on the same loop.

Sounds promising and I'm looking forward to seeing it so we can compare Horizon's. Did you ever pick up the BigNG and MiniNG combo?

might want to get worm clamps with a liner.. or since you are using 7/16 tubiing... zip ties should be enough

above long long post

i need to send this email to quoc, but i have one question: mcw30 or EK 680i?

Petra has a EK 680i NB block for the evga:

http://www.petrastechshop.com/ekev68chwaa.html

will it fit on the SB as well? or MCW30 for SB and EK for NB, or MCW30 for both.

2x MCW30s: hard mounts for both seem to work without modding.

personaly I would cool the SB with a passive heatsink... I am using this http://www.petrastechshop.com/encnonfocono.html I dont see the point in watercooling the SB...

but if you have to... go with the mcw30 for SB and NB.
