okay..

thinking about setting up a wired/wireless network for my desktop, another future desktop, and a laptop with a 802.11b wireless connection...

so if i am using let's say a cable modem...

i need to hook up the cable modem to a wireless/wired router.. and then plug in the rj45 cables from the desktop to the router and the laptop will detect the wireless connection...

is this correct? or am i way off basis?

also... what's the difference between 802.11 a , b , and g besides the speed?

and what's teh best one... i thought g was the best but these new "a" wireless routers are expensive!

Pretty much. You may have to release/renew your network connection, but it's usually not a problem.

This (http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/infoCenter/tip/0,294276,sid7_gci879228_tax293386,00.html) will help you decide between a and b.

This (http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/infoCenter/originalContent/0,294292,sid7_gci880935,00.html)explains g a bit but for right now, It's not a very good chioce.

Personally, I'd go with 802.11 a.

Mind elaborating on what experiance? I've had problems with B. I think it was some kind of interferance, but I'm not positive.

G is 54MBps but doesnt reach distances as far as B (11mbps) does according to PCPlus ;)
