why do you want so much??? nForce boards typically only have 3 slots so either 1x1gb+2x512mb or 2x1gb sticks

I would think two 1 gig sticks for dual channel. Mixing sticks is often a recipe for instability.

NOTHING will make use of more than 512mb unless your a graphic designer using 3dsmax or similar so i dont see why anyone would want to 1: go to the huge expense, 2: have memory sitting there doing absolutely nothing and 3: have it all running at a much slower speed than less memory would run, because sticks of that size dont clock nearly as well.

When multi tasking, huge memory comes in real handy. Sometimes I need as many as six programs running at the same time. Every once in a great while my 1 gig will come close to being used up. I could never go back to 512 on my work rig.

Your problem is going to be finding 1 gig sticks above DDR2700,
Samsung and Micron are the only ones I have seen with 1 gig sticks. All the really high clocking 1 gig retails are matched 512 sticks.

What does he require for a fsb?

ok 225 fsb is ok.i have 2 x256 ocz dual pc3700 gold for mine have not opened box yet system not finished.i have a prometeia system and water cooled NB/9700p GPU.
the other person for 2 gigs of ram he will get new p4 board and take it from there he was going to go mp dual xp2700 with ecc pc21oo corsair but things have changed
hey nice baby you have very cool picture
thanks for the replys

This is probably the best you’re going to find in a 1 gig stick.

www.spartantech.com 1024MB MEMORY PC2700(333MHZ BUS) 1024MB ECC LOW PROFILE DDR 128X72 (184PIN) REGISTERED CAS 2.5 USES 64MX4 DRAMS CORSAIR BRAND MEMORY

They have the non ecc for about $50 cheaper but running 2 gigs, I would think stability would demand ecc.

You need to let this guy know, the chances of having a stable system over spec is slim, but there is no reason he can’t have stability and tons of RAM at spec.

if he wants a fast system why not get an intel setup if money isnt a problem?

nf2 mobos only have 3 mem slots, intel boards have 4.
so you could get 4x512mb of good memory rather then 2x1gb of 2.5cl slow ecc memory?

Ecc stands for “Error Checking and Correcting”, the NF2 say it can handle up to 3 gigs of non-ECC, but where can you find confirmation it will be stable enough to be where the buck stops here? Not too many people running that much RAM on a PC, so it’s a tough call. Intel would offer the spec speeds, and is probably the safest route to go.

This guy probably won’t be a happy camper if he ends up with a less than rock stable system after spending a ton of money.

I am an AMD diehard, but I would advice the Intel too, if you are wanting more than 333fsb with 2 gigs of RAM.

Oh, by the way; thats my grandson :).

money is no prob - then get a macg5 with 8gb of ram and dual 2ghz powerpc procs...
