i am in need of elbow fittings and the only ones i could find are these...

3/8" NPT, 1/2" OD Threaded Hose Barb - 90° Elbow (http://www.petrastechshop.com/3np1odthhoba1.html)

are they compatible with Thermochill?

No man... that's NPT. You need 3/8 BSPP for Thermochills. Look at McMaster Carr.

thank you both for the replies.
this is very new to me and i am having difficulties getting parts that fit.

i am at the states and hence had my hopes McMaster-Carr, to find their site overwhelmingly technical for noobs like me.

currently, my tubes and fittings are already purchased for 3/8" OD. will the addition of 2x 90% elbow be acceptable?

from Marci's Linkie, i found the 3/8" equivalent...

If the build necessitates them, then yes. Only you can answer that question really.

ok, i think i found the parts... looking for a 2nd opinion...

4860K423 (http://www.mcmaster.com/nav/framework.asp?reqTyp=cad&PN=4860K423&view=2D&size=2) will connect to the rad, then i will use the 3/8" BSP Nickel-plated Barbs (http://www.thermochill.com/acatalog/thermochill_accessories.html) that i purchased from Thermochill to end it off...

sounds good?

but only concern is that the elbow i found is BSPT, not BSPP, will it still work?

Use PTFE tape (aka Teflon Tape) on the male (BSPT) end and it'll be fine.

If you want a hassle free, fully compatible elbow, I'd suggest this combo:

4860K433 - 90 degree elbow 3/8" female BSPP
4860K606 - 3/8" BSPP nipple (turns one of the female ends into a male end)

This way everything is still BSPP without the need for tape.

ranker,

What is the SKU number for that barb adapter that has a male G-3/8 to a female G1-1/4 ?

I use 3/8" BSPP male x 1/4" BSPP female hex bushings, McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/) part number 4860K657 on page 29 of their catalog.

Ranker,

thanks for your advice but it seems that your suggestion will require 3 parts to complete the job.

1) 3/8" BSPP female-3/8" BSPP female elbow
2) 3/8" BSPP male-3/8" BSPP male nipple
3) 3/8" BSPP Barb for 3/8" ID tubes

for some reason, i am a firm believer of less parts = less :banana::banana::banana::banana: that can go wrong... well, i can live with PTFE tapes and i got oodles of em so i went ahead of purchaseing the 3/8" BSTP Male - 3/8" BSPP Female elbow to attach direct to the radiator and the barb at the end...

well, hope all goes well.

thanks again for your inputs!

much appreciated.

IanY, wouldnt' that just decrease the size from a 3/8" to a 1/4" still BSPP?
i heard there are parts that changes BSPP to NPT or something more common in US...

just curious...

kinghong,

It reduces a G-3/8 to a G-1/4 barb size. There are a slew of compatible G-1/4 barbs out there at almost every water cooling store. On the other hand, G-3/8 barbs either come from the Thermochill factory store, or you can get the Aquaextreme branded ones from Petra's. Those frequently sell out quickly. Changing to G-1/4 allows you to select barbs from Swiftech, D-Tek, EK, Danger Den, Alphacool, just to name a few companies.

ranker,

Is it a seamless fit? By the way, did you try the Loctite I suggested ?

aaaaaaaaaah..... thanks!

makes sense!

um...

ok, 3/8" BSPP is rare, that i know.. .
if you convert it to 1/4" BSPP this is same as G1/4, i take it,

but NPT is different?

There's a theoretical performance hit downsizing the barbs.. but sometimes you can't win all battles in order to win the war.

The seal for tapered threads vs parallel threads isn't as secure. I'd rather go for a mechanical seal instead of a jerry-rigged tape based seal. In addition, floating chunks of tape in ones loop isn't great to look at and doesn't give me peace of mind in regards to how it might affect my pump.

Haven't tried loctite as I found these instead. The solution I provided seals just like any other type of barb on block joint. There are built in orings on both sides and will give a perfect seal.

NPT is very different from BSPP. NPT is the North American Tapered standard, while the rest of the world uses the British standard: (BSPP is British Parallel, BSPT is British Tapered)

If we just ignore the difference in threads, just imagine a tapered male fitting being inserted into a parallel female. Only the last few threads will actually make any sort of seal, which isn't very comforting to me.
