Trying to decide betwen these 2 boards for my new build:

- E6420 OC'd to 3/3.2ghz
- 2x1gb's 800 RAM (Crucial or G.Skill whichever is better - both have micron d9's, but crucial has $45 MIR at the egg)
- TR 120 Extreme
- GTS 8800 640
- barrucada 7200.10

Don't need SLI, WIFI or Raid, even though the Gigabyte board has raid, hey for the price, whatever.

Would like to OC the E6420 from 400 to 500 FSB on the above RAM.

Are both boards good OC'ers ? Which do you think is more stable and/or better OC options or ability ?

TIA! I'm a n00b OC'er too.

It seems like the P5K vanilla doesn't have the BIOS corruption or SATA drives issues, I say go with the Asus for better OCing. Now, if you were asking about the P5K Deluxe, I would recommend the other way, otherwise.

What BIOS corruption and SATA issues about the GA-P35 are you referring to, do you hae any links ?

Sorry, I was off subject a little. I was refering to the P5K vanilla vs. the P5K Deluxe, which has the those issues. No, the Gigabyte doesn't have BIOS corruption nor SATA drive issues.

Uh, I have a P35-DS3R and it has absolutely no sata issues. I have the ICH9R running in RAID mode with no issues, and the secondary gigabyte SATA2 controller running in AHCI mode with no issues. As for BIOS corruption, I have had no issues, and I've flashed the board to new BIOS versions twice with no problems.

Both are pretty good boards, I doubt you'll be dissapointed from either of them.

I bought the same setup you are asking about, my first return to an Intel system since the Celeron 300A. E6420, P5K and Ballistix 6400&8500, with the stock cooler I had no problem at 3.2 at stock voltage with the vdroop pencil mod. The cpu seems to have a FSB wall around 480, I am now running it on water at 3.5 438x8, 1.418v w/dmm, mem 1:1, I can't seem to get either set of 2x1GB running at anything but 1:1 when at this FSB. 4x1GB doesn't seem to play nice either even at 1:1.

My biggest disappointment is the lack of RAID, every board I have owned in the last 5+ has at least had RAID 0,1 so I forgot to look, doesn't suite me since I've been running 2x36GB Raptors since they came out. The northbridge can get warm, I have an 80mm fan directly over it at very low speeds just enough to keep the air moving and it keeps it slightly warm to the touch now.

I would have no problem recommending this setup to anybody as long as you don't have the need for RAID. The board has been great to work with, I have never had to touch the CMOS jumper, if a setting doesn't work, the board will either reboot itself with workable settings or you may have to turn it off and back on and it will default to a workable setting while maintaining your previous settings. All in all its been a good experience on the darkside, but I still can't bring myself to buy a nvidia card, running an Intel makes me feel bad enough.

Good luck and have fun with the new stuff.

Anyone have any recommendations for a mobo that can do around 500+ FSB. I am looking to push this E6300 further, currently this DFI board is limiting me to a 450 FSB, it refuses to go past this wall I have tried everything. On top of that the NB heats up way too much and the board has other problems. On the other hand this E6300 is pushing almost 3.2gig on AUTO vCore. So im looking for a board that will give me very high FSB and also I may purchase a Q6600 after the prices drop, so OC'n the Q6600 is also a factor. Any ideas?

I've got the reg DS3 and E6420. My mobo was faulty though and had to RMA it. Gets in here this week and I'll post with results.
