6600s are selling for around $230. There is a sale on 6700s at stalliontek for $290.

If used with a P5KD, Antec 900, and a CNPS9700, is it worth the extra sixty bucks? What kind of difference would it make?

On air I would say no. However, every cpu is a crap shoot when it comes to oc'ing.

Get the E6600.

Newer 6600's aren't doing too well O/Cing wise. Go with the 6420. I'm pretty much glad i did as i had intended on getting a 6600 initially but got the 6420 thanks to the helpful advice here. Currently running 3.2ghz with 1.42volts(that's over 1ghz above stock BTW:) ) At 190 bucks from the egg it's a steal. My Friend got a 6600 recently and that thing can't go above 3ghz without 1.5+ volts.

I would hold off until the price cuts at the end of July. At that time you can get a quad core for approx 270 bucks and the new G0 steppings will be released which are proving to be some excellent overclockers.

just make sure you get a good batch mate and that E6600 Will overclock as far as the E6700 can... or just hodl ya money on more month and get a E6850 for the same money ....

and you base that comment on ?

Just wait if you don't really need the processor and either get a Q6600 or an E6850. I myself will be waiting for both processors and buying one of each, Q6600 for crunching and E6850 for benching.

Wow, five different chip recommendations.

I want to clock my chip to 3.6+. I know the Q6600s won't go nearly this high (as I am using air), otherwise I would get one.

I'm pretty sure I don't want a chip with a 333Mhz FSB. The motherboard I am getting would be much better with a slower FSB and a high multiplier, right?

I thought the difference between 6700s and 6600s was that the higher rating meant potentially higher performance, which is why their multiplier is 10x. Is this completely wrong?

Also, are all the new 6600 batches terrible? Do the 6600/6700s still reach 3.6?

imho E6700 is useless unless u are aiming for extreme overclocking using atleast a good water cooling setup

for the money E6600 will overclock fine.

The 6850 es chips seem to oc well at low volts...but the e6600 es chips did too, lol...

this is true

At fsb of 333 or higher, the 6600 and 6850 have exactly the same stats, right?

The 6850 comes with newer steppings and is rated for a higher speed (right?). Doesn't it also run at lower voltage?

I hope some reviews of the 6850 show up soon.

e6850 stock is @ 3ghz. ide recommend that over the e6600

who here consider stock speeds

Get a newer 6850 mate will be as quick, runs cooler due to less voltage requirements and it costs the same...

And if all the claims are correct the 6850 bundled with a good mobo and ram will go way to to 3.8-4ghz on air (if you are lucky ofcourse) I think the E6850 are better engineered E6600's that will do the same speeds with less voltage so also less heat output ,...

who here consider stock speeds

runs cooler.. better chance for OC..

Who here is braindead?

If you lower your expectations 1.5% you might be happy. ;)

I have three Q6600/X3220 systems, and they all top out at between 3510 and 3546Mhz on air.

Just FYI. You might want to see how the new upcoming stepping Q6600s do..
