I'm sorry pal, you've just lost me...

The way I see it, your post contains both the question and the answer...

Have you got artic ceramique or silver? If you do just put that on something like a glasses cloth and rub the block with it....shines brilliantly!

Isn't Brasso a polish? To shine it up?

You use AS5 to clean copper? Whenever I've used AS5 on copper (not to clean!), there's always a silver smear.

Try Crest toothpaste. I used to use it to shine my brass buttons and such.

There are all sorts of things to clean copper.....a whole host of commercial products, like the aforementioned Brasso, creme copper cleaner (made by the same companies that make silver cleaner....can be found in most any grocery store or general merchandise-type store like Target or Wal-Mart), liquid copper cleaner like SilverMate (just search SilverMate in Google), metal polishes like Simichrome, Mother's metal polishes....or most any fine abrasive will clean it, too.....like toothpaste as mentioned above.

Or you can make your own cleaner....some concoctions that work:

Vinegar and Salt.
If copper is tarnished, boil article in a pot of water with 1 tablespoon salt and 1 cup white vinegar for several hours. Wash with soap in hot water. Rinse and dry.

Salt, Vinegar, and Flour.
Dissolve 1 teaspoon salt in 1 cup white vinegar. Add enough flour to make a paste. Apply the paste to copper and let sit for 15 minutes to 1 hour. Rinse with clean warm water, and polish dry.

Lemon and Salt or Baking Soda.
Make a paste of lemon juice and salt, and rub with a soft cloth, rinse with water, and dry. Or use a slice of lemon sprinkled with baking soda. Rub copper with the lemon slice and rinse with water and dry. Vinegar and Salt. Pour vinegar over the surface Sprinkle salt over the acid and rub in the mixture. Rinse with warm water and polish dry.

Lemon Juice and Cream of Tartar.
Make a paste of lemon juice and cream of tartar. Apply, leave on for 5 minutes, and then wash in warm water. Dry with a soft cloth.

Heinz tomato ketchup. If you are not a fan of Senator Kerry, then the McDonald's house brand would do.

And I am not joking.

Brasso... do you know what Brasso does to the block surface ?

The main ingredients in Brasso are Sodium Hydroxide and Petroleum Disstillate. Look at the can. Do you know what it does to the flatness of the water block surface ?

what do you mean?

Sodium Hydroxde is caustic soda. It is abrasive. How do you think it polishes?

2Na+ + 2H2O + 2e− → H2 + 2NaOH

What looks nice and shiny to you does not mean that its flat. The flat surface is shot.

louie101086
06-23-2007, 07:19 PM
what will that do and also i have a bowed gt wont that mess up the bow

littleowl
06-23-2007, 07:21 PM
he is telling you to lap the water block. the same thing that they do for you when you buy a new block.

if you wet sand the block with 2000 grit on a mirror (flattest thing in the world(so they say)) you will get the same affect as the brasso give you.

lol, Yes sir if done on a sheet of glass it would make it flat and shinny.:yepp:

What I am saying is that the Brasso if you soaked the block in it for a while maybe you would mess up the serface but I just can't see it warping a 1/2 block of copper by cleaning it off. Just my :2cents:
