Hi guys,

As you can see from my post in the trading forums, I'm getting rid of this god forsaken ATI AIW 9700 pro. I think. Maybe. I might use it in the new IC7 box, thinking on it.

Anyway... I need a new card for Project Holy (http://www.liquidninjas.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=3001&ppuser=1) because ATI cards simply do NOT work right on this Iwill DP533 i7505 board.

I need a video card under $300 thats NOT an ATI, has extremely good S-Video output, and good 3d capabilities. Im leaning towards the GeForce 5800, which is about $300 these days. Whats a good brand to look at? I'm concerned at Abit's 2d quality seeing these 'ghosts' on my LCD from the Ti4200 Siluro I just got. MSI seems to have a good software bundle. Asus, I dont know. Ive had good experiences with Gainward...any complaints there?

Thanks guys.

I would seriously look at the geforce 5900, the 5800 is a very dissapointing card.

The 5900 isn't available yet, and its well beyond my budget for this project. Is the 5800 that bad?

5800 has DDR2 memory on a memory bus that cant handle it, it is therefore severly bottlenecked, it also runs very very very hot.

An FX5900 non ultra costs around €370 here in europe. Given that the US is cheaper, it should be available for ~300$ sometime this summer.

You could also try a FX5600 Ultra, they cost around 200~250$ and have decent performance.

I don't know any nVidia card that has an excellent TV-out though...

Whats a good non-ati TV out card then? Any of them with progressive scan or component outs or anything? 3d isnt MOST critical on this card, since it will eventually just be a media box. But until i get my new P4 prommy system up and running as a gaming system, this one has to run double duty.

The FX5600 Ultra isn't even near the performance of the FX5800. Is the 5800 so bad that I would be better off resorting to a smaller FX5600?

The FX5900...this is still NV35 core? I see it for $425...eh. Thats more than I wanted to spend really. Ill be getting a 9800 pro or 5900 pro this summer on the prommy box. If the price dropped to $350, then it would be doable.

Not familair with them, but I'll throw the Parhelia out there.. it's known for it's image quality but I'm not sure about the TV Out and stuff.

I had a 5800 i got to review. I had no probs with it, besides the noise, but i dont really mind. It was a powerfull card. Not as good as a 9800, but it still preformed very well.
