I'm working on a buddy's box with this board and processor. At the default settings and speed, the processor idles at 39C but will reach 75+C when loaded with P95 (measured with uGuru). I've tried several coolers (some very good ones) and this trend is repeated with them all. The vcore is 1.4 and the bios won't let me go any lower. Could there be something wrong with the CPU itself? IHS perhaps? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Here's the full specs:
Abit AN8 32X Mobo
3800+ single core processor
Coolmax CP-500T PSU
XFX 7600GT
2x512 Crucial PC3200
120 GB Seagate

I've used the stock aluminum heatsink, the copper heatpipe AMD heatsink (Cooler Master?) a Tt Big Typhoon and a Zalman 9500. All with AS5. I know how to install heatsinks and the surfaces are cleaned with high-strength alcohol prior to applying the thermal compound. Room temp is 21C.

One of 3 possibilities:
-Heatsink not mounted properly
-Thermal sensor crapped out
-CPU is defect

I think that it is #2.

After doing a bunch of component switching, the issue is definitely with the CPU. I put in a 3700+ Sandy for the time being and he seems very happy with it. RMA time for the 3800.
Thanks for the replies, we can consider this problem solved.
