Unfortunately 5/8 is large for a bit, unless you are working on heavy machinery/trucks, and will be hard to find one cheap unless you want to wait for it. If waiting is ok, then look here: eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Hitachi-Drill-Bit-5-8-Black-Shield-New-Never-opened_W0QQitemZ250124435519QQihZ015QQcategoryZ503 83QQcmdZViewItem)

If not, the easiest thing to use would be a 5/8 hole saw, you should be able to get one for around $10 at home depot or lowes.

Instead of a drill, you might want to consider a punch. I bought one for ~$20, but the good news is, it has 4 sizes, 1/2, 3/4, 1, + 1 1/4 inch. The 3/4 size works great for 7/16 ID(5/8 OD) with a grommet. The 1 inch works perfect for a DD fill tube.

Probably not the best, but it will punch some holes.

Just drill a small hole and use a round file to make the hole bigger, Alot cheaper than paying $40.00 for a bit to drill a couple of holes...:D

At Orchard supply hardware they had a 5/8 bit for 15 bucks but its HSS...good enough for your case :P its sorta a waste if you're only using it on your case.

The gromets from Petras go in a 1 1/8" hole or by "them" do you meen the tubes? Two tubes wont go in a 1" hole.

that is what i meant what size whole do i drill for the grommets in order to put the grommet in. i didnt know what size whole to drill

1+1/8" is the diameter of hole you need for those gromets.

BTW I've used them and I drilled a 3/8" hole to get my nibbler head in and then cut the 1 1/8th inch hole with the nibbler by hand.

Lowes? Are you in Oz?
If so get a hand nibbler from your local Jaycar store. Only about $16 and you'll use it more than one drill size.

What size tubing are you using?

I used a 3/4" hole for the grommet for my 5/8" OD tubing. The grommet fits perfect. If you cut a 1 1/8" hole for the 5/8"OD tubing grommet, it will be way too big and the grommet will fall right through. I know it says that on Petra's site, but I think it means the OD of the entire rubber grommet.

Generally you need to cut the hole about 1/8 to 1/4 inch bigger than the OD of your tubing for the grommet, i.e. 3/4 to 7/8 inch for 5/8" OD tubing grommet, 7/8 to 1 inch for 3/4" OD tubing grommet.

YMMV
