I just got some new YL D12SM-12 fans which replaced my YL D12SL-12 fans. petra was out of stock of the fans at the time I ordered them, so I brought 12 fans for $3 each from jabtech (http://www.jab-tech.com/YATE-LOON-120mm-Case-Fan-D12SM-12-Medium-Speed-pr-3770.html). I don't notice a difference in sound because there's plenty of other junk that drowns out my system. I'm posting because I want to remind others that it's important to clean out your radiator and I have an example of why you should.

I already posted in that thread I used an ionic breeze for about 10 months in front of my p180 but I live in a desert and it's getting hot requiring me to have the windows open so more dust blows around.

Jeebus, WTF happened there? Let me guess you have cats, or is that just dust buildup?

i just pull our large air compressor out of the garage and hose my rad down with high pressure air ever once in a while, keeps it nice and clean :)

Unless its filtered in a certain direction I can't see what difference push or pull would have re dirty air ..

I also got those today. I just need to get longer screws.
I ordered removable fan filters from jabtech (http://www.jab-tech.com/120mm-Black-Frame-Aluminum-Fan-Filter-pr-2696.html) since petra didn't have any removable ones (hint hint).

Ahaha.. Lemme add to this thread as well..

Do clean your fans too :P.

This is my MCR220 after 6 months of usage. (I was wondering why my Load temp's shot up from 40C to 50C. lol)

OK - I must be missing something here; can someone please explain what difference push/ pull or both will make with regards to clogging up a rad?

Oh.. huge difference in the level of dust.

so how do the meduim speed fans cool compared to the low speed ones? BTW if you think that was a lot of dust, try leaving a GTX rad for 3 months alone. I swear i had enough interwoven dust to make a sweater of some sort.

Found a medium size electric compressor to blow my box out with. It's important to have clean dry air for the job and to not spin the fans. I jam each fan with a pencil and blow the rad out backwards. Do the same with my tractor's rad too, as it loads up with grass seed.

I'd like to ask what's the appropriate way to clean the rad?

blow the dust out with a compressor (i guess a leaf blower would also work if you dont have a compressor) in the opposite direction the fans blew over the rad. then if you feel like it you can hose it down afterwards and let it air dry out in the sun:)

the difference with the YLs D12SM-12 vs D12SL-12 is about 3-6C on each core of the cpu (with both cores running at the same temp) and the MB temp is 5C lower, and that's with the room temp at 27C in both cases. I will be testing 3 push fans vs 6 fans (3 push 3 pull) tomorrow. hopefully I can control the room temp so it will be the same kind of comparison.

edit: I will be running my GTX on water after I get things setup and I'll see what 7 months of dust looks like! ;)

here's another pic( not a very good one) this time of my Gt360 which I use for my video card(s) loop but I haven't touched it since I got my G80 in november. In terms of 3 fans vs 6 fans my inital IDLE results with the following Xeon 3070 L629B608 at 3.6Ghz with D-TEK FuZion on cpu and Swiftech MCW30 on chipset, motherboard being the Asus P5n32-E SLI PLUS. it shows that at the same room temp 24C in this case: 3 fans reach 42C on both cpu cores in 10 minutes. after leaving the computer off for 3 hours and 15 minutes to install the 3 extra fans and watch some TV with 6 fans ( push/pull) it takes 20 minutes to reach 42C on both cpu cores.
