View Full Version : EK Mosfet coolers/MCW30 on P5N32-E SLI?

I'm planning on purchasing a new Intel setup in a few days and Im still trying to decide on a motherboard. Will the EK Mosfet coolers for the Striker Extreme work on a P5N32-E SLI? The boards look almost identical so I assume they would, but assumptions end up with money down the tube. Also does anyone use a MCW 30 on this board? And if so is it compatible with NB and SB? Ill only be using one card for the time being (8800GTX w/MCW60)

Thanks

Yes, the striker, P5n32-e sli and the P5n32-e sli plus all use the same board layout. This is further verified by looking at the mosfet ordering page of EK where it describes the mobo it is compatible with. I have the plus version and have the EK mosfets and MCW-30s. Soon to be installed.

I got this mobo since it had the best southbridge layout for watercooling. All the other boards had it too close to the graphics card slot #1.

Striker here. With MCW30s on both the NB and SB. I am however using Alphacool Heat Traps on the mosfets.

A little visual confirmation for you - here's my p5n32e-sli with mcw30 on NB & SB & EK Mosfet blocks. only an 8600gts here, with mcw60 on it, plenty of room for me, i know the 8800 is longer though, depends how much further over the gpu is.

Hey, nice build there. I like that sideways orientation of the MCW60, which is what I did with an older 7800GT.

That mosfet loop is pretty tight, but I see no kinks, so its just great.

You like living dangerously there -> no clamps, but I like that :)

Thanks, first time i've posted pics of my rig :)
always plan on doing a work log. it's currently unhappy with a faulty pump.
Yes the mosfet loop is pretty tight. First time i've used smartcoils, they seem to work really well. i'm gonna keep a close eye on it for kinks. i did have one appear on the old loop after a few weeks.

who needs clamps ;)

Cool, thanks for all the info. Looks good by the way, still not sure what CPU block Im going to get, I just took my Storm off my FX-55 and slapped on the 6002 so I can sell the Storm. Ill either get a GTX or the Dtek, hell I might just get an Apogee GT since they are like 20 Euros cheaper over here.

Out of curiosity, has Asus fixed all the issues with the Striker boards. I bought mine back in November and had so many issues. Is it stable now? Are the FSB holes fixed? etc etc. I used to purchase Asus mobo's and videocards exclusively until EVGA came along.

What you talking about? The 1.03 and later revisions have been spectacular. It is the EVGA brand that's a headache.

We have conflicting experiences then. I went through 2 RMA's with Newegg before I swore off Asus. Their tech support was a joke. I tried eVGA out because of their warranty was awesome with my video cards. I haven't had a mobo die on me yet or give me problems other than the time I had a failed experiment with a friend as we tried to do some impromptu LN2 cooling without any sort of insulation.

I'm not looking to start a flame war. I love EVGA's warranty but my first love was Asus. I just had a huge amount of problems getting the board up and running. If you check Newegg's comments, you'll see that people had similar issues like I did at the time. Just wondering if things have improved...as I'm looking to try a Striker out for a friend's build. I just want to know if there are any problems that haven't been addressed etc etc.

By chance when did you get your board?

About a month after release.. maybe end of December 2006 ?

I like EVGA as well. I use BFG video cards.

Well then, I guess its time to give em a shot again. An associate wants a build off of a striker as he'd like to WC his mosfets as well. The EVGA board isn't very friendly towards Mosfet blocks.

I think only the Alphacool ones. EK won't make one for the EVGA board. All the others are Alu and I wouldn't use that in my loops. Even the Thermalright Passive mosfet heatsink won't fit on the EVGA board. It's quite disappointing...:(

How bad are the EVGA mosfets anyway? They can't be as hot as the Asus.

Is there anything on a 680i board that isn't hot? :p:

It's hot enough that the writing on the mosfets and vregs melt away. However, I'm not sure if it gets as hot as the Asus boards.
