My current e6600 is a crappy clocker so i was wondering.... should i pick up a L629F, get a 6700 or get a 6600 from an e-tailer and hope to get lucky. Thx

get a L629F if you can.

l629f ? are these supposed to clock well ???

my e6400 can do 3.5-3.6 .. but i really want to hit 3.8 with something on air

if you can find a e6400 that can do 3.8 on air should be a golden chip.

key words there: If and Air. That's just not realistic.

Thanks scarface. Going to have to try one.

Looks promising, no results just yet. Gotta remount tomorrow to see if i can get the idle temp lower and in sync.

There will always be a difference in temps between the cores 2°C off seems very good to me...

Is 1.4250 volt required for this CPU to run stable at 3200Mhz ? can't you do it with lower eg 1.4 ?? I need 1.42 for 3.6ghz, 3ghz at 1.35 and 1.385 for 3.2

that was my first 6600. On #2 now. Problem is this one is running hotter at idle with 1.22-23v than #1 was at 1.45v.

That can have several causes, most likely this IHS is not as flat as your previous one, so the heat transfer is not optimal. You can check that via eg a razorblade to see if the IHS is flat, if not , you will have to void ya warranty when you want to do a lapping job...

Next up is the batch difference, some overclok better with even lower voltages but tend to be hotter, why , don't ask me , it's just like that, I have an 30F on test and it's IHS is better than my 32A though it really is bad in overclocking, I need 1.55 Vcore to get 3600mhz stable ( only did 3 hours of Orthos ) while my 32A needs only 1.42 Vcore to do that, though temps on the 30F are 2-5°C better even with that high voltage...

Intle I want my 32A inner core with the IHS of this 30F !!!

Man, this chip is a gem. Doing 3.3 with 1.35v set and gettin 1.288v on the droop. Only problem is the damn heat it's putting out 60c loaded, reminds me of s939 opterons. Seems to get hotter with the clocks even if the voltage is kept the same.
Sad part is it will do 3.6 but the temps on air are just too high. With 1.45v(1.41v droop) set in bios Orthos loaded it up to like 74c before i quickly stopped it. So it looks like i'm going to be lapping it soon. Also considering going back to water but i've been either too busy, lazy or tired to fool with it lately.

Great, lapped my cpu and temps are Exactly the same. :brick:

now lap the bottom of your heatsink as well.

The thing is i Did have descent temp with my other 6600. 32c idle-59c loaded with 1.45-1475v set in the bios.
What are your temps like on that Scythe?

Elisha
06-06-2007, 04:11 AM
Scythe is a little crappy cause of the mounting type.
anyway the cpu was concave in the middle so i lapped it......then later the middle had perfect contact but the top and bottom were not because the Scyhte was not flat......so i lapped that too......now it has good contact.
i idle at 33~34 with 1.525v set in bios and load at 63~65.
but i have bad air flow since i have 2x80mm intake at medium speed but they blow at the hdd cage first.....i have 2xSATA drives so intake is blocked big time....with side panel open i idle at 29.

those temps are actually pretty good on air and at that voltage.
I'm loading up to 60c with 1.35v set & drooping down to 1.288v I mean WTF over. I'm thinking evga borked the temp reading with the latest bios cuz there's No Way.

Elisha

1.525v in bios is 1.46v at load and 1.48v at idle after pencil droop mod.
and with side panel open load temps are 57 and i can prime forever at 3.6Ghz with those voltages.
but with side panel close.....it will error in less than 10 mins.
so airflow is very important. especially outside air and not recycled air inside the case.
btw my Infinity has 2x120mm fans on it.

also you will almost never get identical temps on 2 different cpus with the same voltage and same speed on the same mobo.....not sure why.

Wasn't really worth the effort.
Idles the same and loading at 58C now instead of 59-60c :shakes:

yeah i only gained 2 degrees......but every degree counts in a stress test.
