Im sure this thread wont get a whole lot of attention because I dont think many of us here are Linux users, but Im all Linux except for benchmarking so i was just curious, how many frames per second do you guys get in glxgears? Ill start it out. Im using a:
1700+ at ~2.5 ghz 220 fsb dual channel
NF7-M disabled video
9800 Pro 128 MB
512 MB's OCZ Basic 3500 at 2-2-2-3

Im getting almost 7,000 frames a second with glxgears.....So what are you?

never tried that either, but i can install it. glxgears is just a test the is built into X...so all you have to do is run the command glxgears from any terminal

Even so, with that card and the Nvidia Linux drivers installed you should be having a lot better FPS. I think you might be using the generic Xfree drivers...Nvidia has badass Linux drivers unlike ATI

I don't know, never tried. Besides that, I've never heard of glxgears. Supply a link for us.... ;)

I doubt seriously that I would score anything worth posting anyways, the only rig I run Linux (Redhat9.0) on is a dual pen pro 200 system with scsi hdd, minimal (to say the least) vid card.

glxgears are built in with Xfree i believe, so all you have to do is open up you terminal of choice and type in: glxgears

Thats it...its run some gears and tell you how fast you are...WDD...Nvidia has some pimp linux drivers. If you want some help with them, ill be glad to offer it to ya althogh i havent really messed with nvidia since my ti4200...My radeon 9800 pro was a bi*ch to get installed correctly with opengl and 3d rendering...In face, the 9800 pro still isnt supported by ati in linux, luckily my little butchered up version of there drivers works well enough. To bad i have a 400 dollar video card that isnt supported yet in the only OS i enjoy using...

wow, the new NVIDIA Linux drivers kick much azz... :D
Nvidia GeForce2 MX400 64mb
default x driver: ~175 fps
Nvidia driver: ~700 fps

quite a jump, and that was no reboot in between the runs, just exited X and changed drivers... i love the new installer(first time using it) so much easier than digging for all the right files, only to find out you have 2 that don't match, heh...

ati has drivers, they are just not the best...in linux my new 5900 ultra gets about 14,000 fps on the desktop using the nvidia drivers and where my 9800 pro only got at highest like 7500 maybe...plus with the ati you couldnt use AA and all the features..ati's drivers are also buggy...there are generic drivers with the kernel and if you are using the 7500 and under that DRM drivers are great, but if you want 3d on the new cards you have to use their sometimes buggy drivers....check out schneider-digital.de....you can get the latest drivers from there, since ati doesnt provide them....
