If I go into advanced --> cpu configuration --> enable ratio(first option), I can enable this and choose a number from 6 to 9.

Regardless of what number I choose, or what the ratio shows up as in the BIOS, I still have a 9x multiplier. It'll say 8x, but 8x450 is not over 4 GHz. I would like 8x. The board has an obvious hole around 415, but not at 450.. I can boot at 450 with 9x, but barely if at all with 420, 430, or 440. 8x450 would be great so I can continue moving on up until about 470(if it's anything like the ds3) before I hit another hole.

I'm using the latest official bios. is there a way to set a lower than 9x multiplier and have it stick?

Those numbers that you are referring to are probably valid with dual-cores. Quads are a different animal and even if it wasn't for the multiplier bug I highly doubt you could do 450-470.

I am confused, what is the multiplier bug?

I can boot at 9x450, but not at 9x430, or 9x440. I can run prime for hours at 9x385, but it falls flat on its face at 9x390. at 9x390 the memory is at a point where I know it's good and the CPU is around 3.49 GHz.. so it doesn't make sense that it would fall flat on its face equally at 3.49 GHz and DDR1000ish as it would at 4.1 GHz and DDR1000ish. I am pretty confident I could find something that works in the 450 area if I could have 8x working. so I am thinking there is a hole here. Even if what you're saying is true, I would like to find this out for myself opposed to being limited by my board not letting me adjust my multiplier. :(

I have the same exact problem. My P5B uses a 9x multiplier no matter WHAT I set it to. It severely limits what I can do with this chip/board combo. And the BIOS has been out since like 7/17? FIX it already Asus, geez.
