Forgive me for assuming that posting specs on an overclocking q&a forum would automatically lead me down a path where those specs would lead to those capable of deducing how to go about overclocking a machine with said specs to posting suggestions for someone who was obviously ignorant in the ways of overclocking as is suggested in this thread's title. Given the specs above can anyone offer some insight into where to begin overclocking and what some sensible settings might be?

I have wiggled the handle proverbial handle in the BIOS, but that has only led me to a system that will not start. I have tried to use the stinking ASUS overclocking software, but that led me down the same path.

Well I would read the stickies first and get some ideas about what you are getting yourself into. you have to have some sort of idea of what you are doing to get any help.

Maybe give us some goals you would like to accomplish?

Read the stickies, try some stuff out, if you get stuck post about settings and maybe somebody can help. I probabley won't have the answers, but people on here do, and they are willing to help. It helps if you go into detail about the problems you are experiencing. A lot of people have the same hardware as you, but they dont all want the same thing.

O ya, leave the sarcasm at the door

wow

u sure need some help

but not in overclocking

using a very useless thread title and only listing ur hardware specs doesn't mean that u need help in overclocking

can you please mention ur watercooling setup and temps ?

anyway u can read this guide
http://www.hardmart.com/forums/showthread.php/core-2-duo-overclocking-27.html

wow man such flowery language  :D

you need to keep the system at stock settings i think :D:D:D:D Overclocking is not something i would recommend you try

I'm looking for a starting point. I've tried to adjust my fsb and the reaction of my BIOS has proven that I don't know what I am doing. And as this thread shows, I can barely even post.

As I read it my fsb is set at 1600. Divide that by 8 and I get a number I'm not sure how to deal with. Shouldn't I be looking for something like 266? Is the FSB the only thing I need to adjust to get started? My flowery language is an indicator of my algebra skills though.

I have a cpu block only and a 120.2 radiator. 34, 29 ambient. I am happy with these temps, and I'm not looking to set any performace records, I'd just like a little push.

1600 means you are on 400MHz FSB

what multiplier?

ok 'nuff mucking around

if you want help you have to do some work for us

please go to bios and note down ALL the bios options and then let us know what values you set

here is an example of what i mean

did some RAM testing :D

G.Skill HZ 2GB Kit
543MHz 4-4-4-12 2.45v (2.4v windows >> according to gotherblues asus undervolts at this setting to around 2.2v >> but i haven't measured)
