Due to large request, we're adding the ability to specify the cooling used on your processor / videocard / motherboard / memory.

I'm not really up to date about which kinds of cooling methods are getting used nowadays. Is this list complete (or can I drop one)?

'stock cooling'
'air'
'water'
'peltier'
'dry ice'
'phase change: simple'
'phase change: cascade'
'phase change: rotary'
'liquid nitrogen'

Of course, there are a few exceptions like using DI in a watercooling container, or rotary cascades etc, but the smaller the list the easier it is to use.

Should we make a difference between air cooled and water cooled peltiers? Or are air cooled peltiers virtually non existent nowadays?

Do we need to make a difference between all the different kinds of phase changes (simpe, cascade, rotary, etc), or just put them in one category 'phase change'?

Should you be able to select the manufacturer and/or model of your cooling, or is this useless info?

What about air-con air? :)

Thanks for adding this option :)

Airconditioned air? I'd be hard to split up the air cooling methods, as the effect differs greatly based on the climate you live in...

True. I guess theres always gonna be a fairly large temperature range even in the categories...

Vapo XE II Vs an SC11 SS
2-stage Vs 3-stage cascade etc

:)

Still very happy to see the option!

Stock Cooling
Air Cooling
Water Cooling
Single Stage
Cascade
Rotary
Dry Ice
LN2
Peltier

should be good enough ;)

So, group peltier in one category, and split up phase change into 3: single, cascade, rotary.

Sounds good to me. :)

Is keeping track of cooling used on the memory sticks useful?

Is keeping track of cooling used on the memory sticks useful?
i'd say yes.. but i'm just addicted to memory LOL :o

Is keeping track of cooling used on the memory sticks useful?

If you're not joking, i`d rather see GPU cooling method implemented before RAM cooling :)

@K404: they will all be released in the same update.

bong, are ppl actually still using this?

Bong cooling IS watercooling...water temps won't get much below ambient.

Afaik very few people use bong cooling. Those who do can select 'water cooling' and type 'bong cooled' in the description. ; )

yes that's good enough

could you do it via temperature rather than hardware used? As someone living in siberia can obviously get as good temps on air as those with weak phase units. :p: . However if this is simply to help the description and not being used for new points and categories what you have is fine.

@melymel2789: it's purely informational, as we have no way to verify. No ranking / points will be assigned.

Perhaps ambient should be specified as well, it will pretty much say the difference between -20C air and + 30C air :)

I concur :)
If you bother into re-coding the submission page to add the cooling used textbox/drop-down menu, add a textbox to report the ambient temp ;)

Is there a reason why "rotary" is a being considered a different form of phase change cooling compared to a single stage? I'd say Single Stage, Autocascade, Cascade would be more clear as there are rotary powered single-stages, rotary powered autocascades, and rotary cascades, along with hermetic alternatives also. Even simpler would be single-stage or multi-stage with autocascade falling under multi-stage.

To separate the Single Stage from Single Stage using Rotary's cooling-wise

RichBa5tard

so, instead of:

'phase change: simple'
'phase change: cascade'
'phase change: rotary'

This would be better?

'phase change: simple'
'phase change: cascade'

Sorry, I'm not really into this phase change cooling. :)

Adding ambient temps is not really a problem, but I don't want to clutter the submission page too much either.

Nothing else is required, just ambient temps and type of cooling :) Actually ambient temps are more important only for water/air cooling.

RichBa5tard

True, but I think most people don't know the exact ambient temp.

Maybe we should divide ambient into ranges?

'arctic: <10C'
'freezing: -10 to 0C'
'cold: 0 to 10C'
'chilly: 10 to 15C'
'normal: 15 to 25C'
'warm: 25 to 30C'
'tropic: >30C'

How 'bout this:

Cooling:
Stock
Air Cooling
WaterCooling
Phase Change: Single
Phase Change: Single Rotary
Cascade
TEC ( Peltier )
Dry Ice
LN2

Ambient Temp Ranges:
-15C to 0C
0C to 10C
10C to 15C
15C to 20C
25C to 30C
30C+

Simple method: air, water, xtreme and a textfield called: descibe.
Though, if you're looking for implementing it into the search engine people might like to have more detailed search options.
Something like this:
- Stock Cooling delete, replace with Air Cooling (I would not use stock cooling as an option as it is of very few interest, most people mod it anyway somehow and you must also not forget that there are factory watercooled videocards out there which might confuse people in what box they have to mark)
- Water Cooling
- TEC/Peltier, Waterchiller
- Single Stage
- Dry Ice
- Multi Stage (Cascade, autocascade, etc)
- LN2
And eventually add an extra describe field...

----
'arctic: <10C'
'freezing: -10 to 0C'
'cold: 0 to 10C'
'chilly: 10 to 15C'
'normal: 15 to 25C'
'warm: 25 to 30C'
'tropic: >30C'

sounds nice!

Air cooling
Water cooling
TEC (Peltier)
Single stage vapour phase change
Dry Ice
Two stage vapour phase change (classical cascaded / auto cascaded)
Multiple stage vapour phase change (classical cascaded / auto cascaded / hybrid)
Liquid nitrogen

:)

Putting a single stage system with a rotary compressor in a different class to a single stage system with a reciprocating compressors is ridiculous...

that's not fair

rotary phase change in separate category :D
