View Full Version : Stitched Panoramas

I've been experimenting with stitched together panoramas lately. I've only got one decent one , and you can view it here (http://amdfan12.homelinux.com:1080/pano35.jpg). Just a warning, the panorama has a resolution of 14113x2870. That link is the compressed one, weighing in at 6.5MB, you can get the full 31MB picture here.. (http://amdfan12.homelinux.com:1080/pano3.jpg)

I'm using a program called auto-stitch to stitch them together. It is pretty neat how much detail you can make these pictures have.

It treats lighting differences very well too

I use the Photomerge tool within Photoshop CS2 and it works pretty well and even has perspective correction so your picture doesn't look curved.

These are resized to around 25% of their original size.

1 (http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/BlackHawk2k6/Cars/My%20Garage/Stitch192.jpg) - 3 pictures
2 (http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/BlackHawk2k6/Cars/My%20Garage/Stitch201.jpg) - 3 pictures
3 (http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/BlackHawk2k6/Cars/My%20Garage/Stitch204.jpg) - 4 pictures

I like #2 the best. This is one of the reasons I have a widescreen monitor ;)

CS2s photomerge ultimately failed trying to put the 85 images in that panorama together :( Put some pictures in random places, and the lighting was totally screwed up. Putting into perspective mode made things even worse :( :(

Your cam has nice sharp details.
I'm not familiar with stitching. Are the door panels at the bottom wavy or is that how they are built (i'm not familiar with new cars):)
Actually i'm drawn to the concrete in pic.1 details & shadows on the chunks are realistic to me (of course i like your car:)

You are seeing where they merged under the G in Grand. It isn't perfect, because when you pan the camera the image wants to look curved. It's pretty close though.

Those are post-processed too of course.

Oh yeah they are nice.
I wasn't familiiar with the process and it's darn good if you have to pan the camera, to get it that sharp. I'll be reading up and trying it out.:)

This seems pretty cool, I might see about doing this.

Do you just plant the tripod in a location, then just rotate the camera around till it views everything, or do you actually move the camera?

My camera has a Photostitch mode that helps you line them up, its very useful. Probably wouldn't try it without it.

Has anyone ever tried a full 360° panorama shot? That would be weired to look at on screen, but really cool if you printed it out and curved it right round :D.

Magnj
05-29-2007, 10:22 AM
Brett mine is actually full 360 though it doesn't line up perfectly. Here is another example and click the link for a web app to make it look 360.

You can use perspective correction to make it look like a really, really wide angle shot.

Soulburner

If you have Photoshop CS2 (may be in CS also) you can use Automate - Photomerge and when you make the panorama choose Perspective. It will flatten the pictures so they are not curved.

Post your panoramic photos! I used THIS (http://hardwarelogic.com/news/127/ARTICLE/1973/2007-12-26.html) guide to do mine, and it's relatively easy if you have a tripod.

Lol sweet man!
It's funny how the stitching makes the pictures kinda warped :p:
But nevertheless it looks great!
I should try some of this stuff when I get my comp up and running and when my dad gets a canon 5d :D
