I have a new Opteron 185, and it's going ok, however, I'm not too happy with the core temps.

The motherboard sensed CPU temperature is fine - 28. But the cores can go up to 70 with heavy load (overvolted), and the higher of the two idles at 50.

I don't believe there's anything wrong with the cooling as such, I think it's heat buildup in the IHS.

I'd like to know if it's safe to remove the IHS and still fit the waterblock, without clearance issues etc.

I've heard that the socket itself can block this, obviously if it does then I'm going to have a dead CPU.

Anyone able to offer an opinion?

It's an Aquacomputer Cuplex Pro block. Here's a bad picture.
