Hi!

Was wondering if anyone could give me a quick rundown on the potential overclocking ability of the following system:

Pentium D 930 3.0Ghz
ASUS P5N-E SLI
2x 512mb DDR2-667 Kingston (value ram)
Geforce 7600 GT
450W PSU
Zalman Air Cooling and good airflow.

Cheers guys!

nobody at all? would really appreciate a response.

Thanks!

do you have all those components already? because if not, it'd be better to go for something else a little more worthwhile

Hi, thanks for replying.

I have got all these components already, was given most of them so just wanted to play around with them. I gather you dont think theres much potential there then? Could you giveme a rough idea of what you think I might get out of it?

Also, what parts would you recommend as being more worthwhile?

Cheers

you could probably voltmod the 7600gt and make it a bit faster. and the pd930 should be fairly overclockable as well. high 3's / low 4's

Thanks for your reply, Ive got it all up and running, got it to 3.7ghz without any effort. Ill probably leave it there for now asit does everyhting i want it to do.

Thanks again.

why dont you try to 4ghz... try increasing pci-e freq as it would help oc the system and vga. what is that KVR chipset? hynix? what type? as some hynix could oc to PC8500 easily...

The P5N-E has the nvidia chipset, not sure if thats any good or not? I got it up to 3.75 last night with a slight vcore raise.

you have a nice 930, i think 4ghz would be possible. i never use nvidia chipset on Intel before, but raising nb voltage could help oc higher. just pay attention on temp, both cpu and nb. if possible add additional fan for nb since nvidia chipset is hot.

there is a huge thread on that board over at anand

i had a 7600gt ... can't remember how it clocked but it's wasn't volted modded or anything

upgraded to 7900gt

Hmmm yeah i figured I got lucky with the processor. I'll try raising the NB voltage but your right it does run pretty hot already. The problem I have is that my motherboard is getting a bit cramped.

Can you recommend a small but effective cooling option (new heatsink or fan or both) as the current NB heatsink sits almost uncomfortably close to the Zalman CPU cooler.

Cheers!

Thermaltake Extreme spirit 2 is quite nice, full copper + blue led on fan. my NF4 chipset were 59c loaded when i switch it and become 39c loaded...
i you want better i think the Thermalright is the best, forgot the model but it thin and tall, silver colour.

Ok so i think new cooling for my NB is a must for my P5n-e sli. The passive heatsink ASUS provide is getting a tad hot to the touch. I also noticed that the southbridge pretty much burns my finger when I touch it. Any ideas as to why this might be? And ideas for a good cooling method?

The other problem i'm having is that the NB and CPU are located fairly close together on this board and upon closer inspection, with the huge Zalman cooler on the CPU, I have very little space for a new, better NB heatsink. need to have a think about it.
