Why do you need two radiators?

2 Loops -- water cooling a lot

Loop1: Res > DDC2 > PA120.2 > CPU > NB > SB > res

Loop2: Res > 655 > PA120.3 > GPU1 > GPU2 > Res

Do you think you have enough radiator power? You are mixing the NB and SB with the cpu.. and on to a PA120.2 no less. Well, its good you're not trying to cool a quad core.

You may want to double up on the pumps... I'm not kidding.

If you can, you would do best isolating your cpu.

roll i hope you are F fitting that NB and SB section of the loop. it will reduce overally cooling of the NB/SB but then again it will reduce the heatdump into your cpu loop.

the NB and SB wont be THAT important to cool, seriously

[/ Geaux Tigers Fanboism]

Well, first you won't see me in Death Valley this season since you guys come to T'town.
But that's too bad as we have only lost in Death Valley three times since 1969 (we did win from 1969 up to 2000 (30 straight years -- 15 straight times)...we have DuBose to thank for that streak-ender)

It's so stupid how LSU fans feel about Saban. Let's see:
1)LSU won their first N.C. in like 40 years b/c of Saban
2)LSU has the most talent of any SEC team now b/c of Saban
3)They finally beat Bama in Baton Rouge in 31 years b/c of Saban (or really b/c of DuBose...but Saban was still head coach at LSU

Where would LSU be today if Saban didn't turn them around. You guys should appreciate what he did for your program. If you don't, maybe you should just give away the N.C. he won to USC or Auburn.

This "hatred" toward Saban is at this point more jealousy. You would have taken him back from Miami in a heartbeat (now that he's at Bama I'm sure you would never take him back). Les Miles is a good coach and we shoulda hired him instead of Mike Price when he was one of the candidates in 2002. But Miles is no Saban, and you know it.

I have no hatred towards Coach Saban. I just don't like the fact that he ditched our team after looking us in the eye for 3 weeks assuring the LSU Alumni that he was "not for sale." We paid him more than any other college coach in NCAA History. Coach Saban always was and always will be a great coach. The reason that most have a sour taste leftover is because he is now working for one of our biggest RIVALS in the SEC. I harbor no ill will towards coach.

Had you taken the time to read my post instead of going off half kocked you would have seen the humor I was trying to relay with all of the :p: was nothing more than an SEC rivalry jab. I will however refrain from posting anything else about Coach Saban in your thread. I didn't realize anyone in Alabama had even noticed they had a new coach until I saw your post.

Good day, Sir.

You really think the NB/S will really add that much to the temps? I'm just putting those in for reduced noise level.

They'll add a bit. How hot they run is a frequent topic on the evga motherboard forum, with the reps assuring everyone they're OK to 100C!
The volt' reg's run bloody hot too. I've seen that R50 lettering burnt off in two weeks.
The two black blocks near the cpu are notorious for bad contact at the mid points with their cooling faces. A common mod is to lift both those blocks and the chip set blocks, cleaning off the OD of goop the factory applies and carefully re-aligning the blocks with better TIM.
A primary motive for WCing the 680 for me was to open up the area surrounding the psu to decent airflow, those two blocks especially.
It's a good board but one that benefits from attention to cooling, imo.

It looks like your project is gonna kick butt (although, I do wonder, and I am just as guilty as anyone, when we spend this much money on our hobby if we couldn't be helping out a little in say Darfur etc). Back in the dynasty days of Byrant and Wooden, the system was more lenient in allowing teams to rack up several championships in a single decade but I think those days are about gone (USC has tried to do the same in this decade but it is proving I think, a much more difficult road than it would of have been in say the 1960s). I respect the Tide and I am sure Saban will have them winning more than Shula but history has also shown that Saban is more opportunistic than many (so maybe many Bama fans should consider it a short term tenure). On the other hand, my beloved Florida has Billy Donovan (who turned down Kentucky) who is staying to continue building on his dynasty and Urban Meyer who is off to a better start than even the :banana::banana::banana:y Spurrier. So again, I welcome another competitive coach to the best conference in college football for the Florida Gators to chomp on! Go Gators

Yeah...I think Urban is the best coach in the SEC...I remember when he left BG for Utah. Alabama waited too long to fire DuBose and missed out on that hire by 2 days. I certainly wish we had hired him then.
Saban is NOT a short term hire. Why would he leave the NFL to come back to college? Because that's where he wants to be -- college. Alabama has as much tradition as any team in the nation, and has the best fanbase in the country. We just had 92,138 at our spring A-Day game and had to turn away 20,000 more fans since 92,138 is capacity for the stadium right now. Saban knows he has just about the best job in the country. People saying that he is a short tem hire are just hoping that he won't be here long.
Another team for you guys to chomp on? Heh...we've won 3 of the last 4 against you guys and all time record is 20 and 13 (http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/sec/alabama/opponents.php).

OK...I got up late and had to go back to Lowe's twice so i haven't gotten as much done as I wanted.

I took the case apart so i could measure the divider.
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build028.jpg

I then took a piece of scrap metal that I got from performance-pcs for $5 and put it on my "workbench" (my kitchen table from college)
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build032.jpg

Here's the jigsaw I used. It was my grandfather's and man it is old...but it still works great!

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build031.jpg

Metal divider finished and some neoprene rubber trim added -- this will sit on the divider that came with the system..i want to have air flow on the bottom of the case (where the rads are) to flow in one direction -- in one side and out the other.
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build035.jpg

This might get in the way. I don't need it anyway as I'll be using 2 Bulgin switches.
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build033.jpg
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build034.jpg

I then retaped the power button so as to not leave a hole up front.
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build045.jpg

Next, I added the neoprene gaskets and Yates to the rads.

Might be wrong, but I think Ohio State's stadium seats 110,000. Ohio State has the best (largest) fan base.

You are correct in that Ohio State has maybe the largest fan base. But not the best. You guys only drew 71,000 for your spring game. If we had 110,000 stadium, we woulda had that.
Alabama drew 40,000 fans to Hawaii when we played them. Hawaii! Wasn't even a bowl game. Plane tickets in December to Hawaii are expensive. Alabama fans travel wherever the game is. I went to the UCLA game a few years ago and there were m ore Alabama fans at that game than UCLA...and it was at the Rose Bowl (UCLA's home stadium). Had to be 60,000 Bama fans there.

We are going to play Florida State this year in jacksonville in what is supposed to be a 50/50 game. I bet it ends up 70/30.

No fans follow their team like Alabama fans. That's why we've been to more bowl games than any other college team -- the bowls know we will travel to see ourm team.

Best does not mean the largest stadium. Our 92,000 seat stadium will have 5 times the passion of your 110,000.

Similar, but why not get it from McMaster. McMaster only charges $4.00 shipping on orders and the part from them is only $6.00 (if you're wondering the O-rings in my picture came with the part). So you're looking at the same price when you add in shipping. Also, McMaster has locations all over and the one nearest you will ship, so you're looking at 1-2 days shipping.

Part no. 4860K605 at McMaster. Look on Page 29...most of their BSPP stuff is on that page.

Any updates available on this? I've been really thinking of copying this monster!

I hope to be finished this weekend. Work/social life and the fact that I've never built a W/C setup has slowed this project down.

I was going to finish the tubing Tuesday night, but realized that I need worm clamps for the fittings on the MCW30's. McMaster should have those via UPS on my desk at work in about 30 minutes.

Then, I realized I needed an extension for the 12volt/8 pin motherboard processor connector. The cable that came with my UltraX3 is about 3 inches short. I ordered some 3 pin fan connector extenders too. Those will be here tomorrow, both from Performance-PCS. I have an old power supply that I will be hooking the pumps up to in the meantime for testing the water loops.

The BigNG will have to go up front. I wanted to attach it to the back of the motherboard plate, but it may get too hot back there...I've heard of the components overheating on it. That is why I got the 3 pin extenders. I will attach it top the inside of the top of the case, above the top 5.25" bay. Will get a fan for it sometime soon, but that will not hold up me finishing the project. I figure I need a 45mm fan or 2. 40mm might be too small to mount.

BTW, if you want a 1000 watt modular power supply, you have to get an ultra as it is the shortest one.

Depending on how long it takes me to attach the worm clamps tonight, I may post some pictures then. I have about 65 already that I need to post. I will be watching my Tivoed Lost from last night while working on the Saban, as well and cooking some pan seared tuna which is sometihng else I've never done. The tuna part shouldn't take long though. The recipe (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sesame-Seared-Tuna/Detail.aspx) says 20 minutes.

I do fully expect to have the water loops done tonight and if I have time will post as many pics as I can then. Of course, I also expected to be done with this project two weeks ago!

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build117.jpg

I did one card and was going to do the other card when I realized the water blocks looked a bit different. Both boxes had 8800GTX on them, both had 8800GTX instructions, and both had screw sets for 8800 cards. Weird. Eddy from EK sent me a replacement for free though. Thanks Eddy!

I put wheels on the Saban. Had to get a tap kit so that the screws would not go into the bottom of the case. The first tap broke on the third hole and I had to go get another one. One of my 5,000 trips to Lowe's/Home Depot.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build123.jpg

The wheels base is too wide to fit inside the recessed area of the bottom of the case. So, I used some rubber washers that I got from the plumbing department as separators. Oh, and I painted the thumb screws black that hold the rads to the bottom of the case. As you can see, I moved the PA120.2 rad about 2 mm toward the front after the first mount. After putting the worm clamps on last night, I am sure i will have to move the PA120.3 about 2mm toward the back!

Here are those rubber washers again on the grills that will go over my 90mm rear case fans.

The water plan started off like this

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build094.jpg

But that won't totally work because the video cards get in the way. The res.'s will have to be mounted higher.

Oh here's pics of the hard drive bay and the res's mounted

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build088.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build089.jpg

Replaced the silverstone with a YateLoon low speed led fan.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build090.jpg

And removed this grill that sits directly behind the fan.

I drilled the holes for the fillports and installed.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build108.jpg

Had to use 90° fitting from the fillports to the res's...shouldn't cause a problem at all (btw will put plastic clamps on this when ready).

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build135.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build136.jpg

Oh, yeah, I did this too so I could run the tube from the PA120.3 to the first 8800. This is the divider between the upper and lower compartments.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build086.jpg

Remember this piece?

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build035.jpg

Well, I cut off the right front "flange" so I could get the tubing in there and put on top of the divider. Try not to look a the scratch (this will never be seen anyway as it will be under the 2nd video card.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build137.jpg

You may be asking at this point...how in the world will he change the speeds on that 655 pump? Well, I drilled a hole in the back of the M/B plate and marked the 1-2-3-4-5 positions with a sharpie. The hole cannot be seen from the front!

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build105.jpg

Here's how the tubing will look in the bottom of the case (will attach a plastic clamp to the ddc2 inlet).

Last pics for now...here are the switches installed. One rocker switch will be for the ccfls and uv leds on the res's. The other is just for symmetry. One bulgin will be for power and power led, the other will be for reset and hdd led.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build134.jpg

This is the piece that the M/B plate slides into at the top of the case. I will be running 12volt power for the processor, the power for the rear fans and the fans at the top through these holes.

looking great so far...keep the pics coming, some great inspiration for us noobs :fact:

speaking of noobs...how did you manage to remove those plastic screws on the silverstone hd tray?

I really wanted to replace those ugly leds with a Yate ever since mine arrived, and now that I seen pics of yours... :slobber:

were you able to still use the plastic screws after removing them or did you replace them?

any tips would be really appreciated

BigRollTide1. You are doing a fantastic job; I have a great deal of admiration for people that are prepared to go to any length just to get the results they want.

We are almost using the same kit, I’m starting my work log on Monday, and I’ll be following yours for the rest of the build.

You sound as though you have encountered some problems that I will be having too, like extending the cpu 8 pin +12v round the back of the motherboard plate. I’m using a Galaxy 1000w, which is HUGE!!!! I contacted Enermax and they are sending me an extension lead free of charge.

Thank you Enermax

I like the way you have placed the fill ports for your reservoirs, I think I may have to copy your idea because it makes filling the loops a lot easier. Only difference is that with my psu being so big I my have to put my rad for the cpu & nb bridge up were the top case fans are. So I may have issues bleeding that loop. Got to work out the best way to fix the rad up there first.

I’ve sent Silverstone an e-mail to see if I can get a spar top grill, so I can try adapting one. But as yet they haven’t got back to me.

Thats a quick plan of what my loops may be like, and my case in bits.

Once again, you are doing a great job.

Best of look with the rest of your quest.

Well, I finally finished the loops. Here's a pic before putting water in. Yes, I haven't clamped the video card loop yet. I want to test the other loop for leaks first since I have to take parts of the video loop out to work on it.

The res's will always be at that angle unfortunately. It has to do with the connection from the back res. to the 655.

Congratulations BigRollTide!

If you don't mind, I want to build up the black TJ07 I have for my son, so that it looks a little (a lot) like yours.

I like the combination of the PA120.3 and the PA120.2 at the bottom. I also intend to install two MCR120QPs at the top.

The motherboard will be the Asus Striker Extreme. The video cards will be BFG Ultras. The water blocks will be mostly EKs.

I intend to use three loops. One for the cpu, one for the video cards, and another for the NB/SB/Mosfets and perhaps I will use the OCZ Flex memory as well.

I don't mind at all. I still give credit to SteveK and Masaville for this build.

If you are going to put the one fan that you can put between the rads at the bottom, then I would suggest getting nylon screws for the mount. The paint is scratched a good bit on the PA120.3 (the fan is mounted to the PA120.2). There is absolutley no room left down there. The tubing on the 90° fittings are rubbing up against the PA120.2. When figuring out the mount locations for the rads, they really need to be absolutley as close to the sides without the fans touching the sides, or you will not be able to this. When I say there is "just enough room" there really is just enough room.

Thanks.

I intend to use 3/8" tubing, so hopefully it'll cut down on the space requirements. This quiet PC thing is something I have never set up before, and it'll be a learning experience. One altermative is to do a single loop rather than all these convoluted loops.

The CPU/NB/SB (CNS (too bad it doesn't go CPU/SB/NB with a Y-slpitter then it could be CSN&Y :p:)) is blue...the vid card loop will be red. I got the CNS running...will let it bleed for an hour then I gotta a party to go to..probably won't get anymore work done until tomorrow.

Ok..got the video loop done, realizing a really really really stupid mistake in design concept (I will say it again...this is my first w/c build), however I worked past that carefully. I hope my flowrates are not hurt too bad by it. I will probably have to replace the 655 with a ddc2, an only for direction purposes.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build143.jpg

And here shows the idiotic design (the trained eye will notice) :am:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build144.jpg

Moving on..here are the cables for the rocker switch...they are for ccfls and for 2 uv leds for the res'. However, somehow I screwed up one of the led's so I'm down to one for now...and the led's don't do anything anyway when screwed into the side hole of the res. It would probably do something if screwed into the bottom, but that is not possbile with my setup at all.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build145.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build150.jpg

I mounted the BigNG with velco to the top/front inside of the case:

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build147.jpg

And the sensor hub to the side. I also drilled two holes on that side for cable access to the BigNG (top) and to the switches (middle) and put rubber grommets on the holes.

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build146.jpg

And the last thing I did last night was to mount the ccfls - eek there's a bubble in the video loop there that I need to get out:

Ok..pretty much finished for now. I will redo the cpu line in a couple of months if everything is running fine then. I want to lap the CPU, but I didn't want to lap it before I was sure it would run OK.

What a cluster     the back of the case is. It's a good thing you can only see this when the back is open!

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t199/BigRollTide/Build153.jpg

I mounted a fan to the BigNG (Panaflo low speed 60 mm). Tapping the acrylic was too easy! Later I thought I had screwed the thing up since I kept getting alarms for the BigNG every time I turned the computer on. The sensor hub kept saying the flow was .4 l/m on the first loop and .3 on the second (there is nothing hooked up to the second flow senser at all). I had to turn the alarm off, and after I stopped messing with it for about 2 hours and went on to something else, it just started working again out of the blue. Weird.

Is there any noise from connecting your pump directly to the rad? I would be worried about vibration and leaks after a while.

Also, how is the noise levels with the fans? Looks like a lot of fun to do.

I am building my own system up with dual loops and making my own case. I esitmate that the project will take me approx 100 hours to complete, as there will be some custom design elements and effects with the UV and different materials.

Vibration...none. Noise level from fans..pretty high I guess. I have them on 70% right now (they are the middle speed Yate Loons). I may tweek it down more depending on how much temps drop. I used as5 so may after a few more hot/cold cycles I'll turn it down.

The 90mm fans in the back of the case create a lot of noise. I slowed those down to 30%

I assume you are using those fans to push air into the case? Once your temps stabilize, I would try shutting off those 80mm fans and then verifying your temps again.

Regarding your video WC loop, would your tubing from the rad to the lower card not be shorter/cleaner to run the tube from the rad, under the separator tray and up through a hole, and then into your card?

Temps on the mosfets? That would be the reason to have airflow there. I don't want to turn off those fans completely. They are not that noisy at 30%

Only if you use 90 degree fittings -- otherwise there is no way to do it.
I wanted the separator to be as clean as possible. Looking from the side of the case, there are no visible holes on the separator (unless you really try to look hard into the bays up front). To me, having no visible holes was the cleanest way to do it. I also wanted to have it so that airflow would go through the case from one side to another (instead of losing air through those middle holes that are standard in this case) and having less holes in the separator seemed like the best way to do this. The fans on the PA120.3 pull air into the case and onto that rad, the fan in the middle helps pull air through, and the fans on the PA120.2 continue pulling air through it and push air back out the other side. With the way I have it done, you cannot see anthing on the bottom of the case because of the separator I made, and you cannot see where the tubing comes through snce it all comes through up front.

I see what you are saying with the mosfets. That is one of the bigger challenges I am facing with my design. I think I will just incorporate a low cfm 120mm fan.

Overall a very good use of the existing realestate. (there is never enough lol)
