Would you go for the E6600 or the E6420?

This is only considering highest possible OC attainable. I ask because right now I just have to click submit order to finally get my C2D rig started but I really can't decide. The price difference doesn't matter to me. But I've heard/read that the recent E6600 aren't the same OC champs they used to be and that the new 6420's seem to have a lot of potential.

Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have one to get rid of, E6420 does 3.520 at 1.525v, 3.5 @ 1.5v and 3.576 @ 1.55v. Dunno if Im gonna post it for sale here or just ask at work. Boots over 3.6 not stable tho.

Highest possible OC is your main concern? I'd gamble on an E6600 if price isn't an issue. If you get a terrible chip flea bay it.

head over to frys, and ask them to look at what they have in stock, if they let you , you can pick the batch number

I can't. It has to be Newegg, since I am going to be using my Preferred Account. This decision is screwing with my mind :stick:

I bought a e6420 from newegg and got a L644G. These have been reported as complete duds, but this guy had his go up to 3.9GHz. I'm not sure of the cooling.

LINK L644G (http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2143982&highlight=L644g#post2143982)

I'll be testing this CPU as soon as i get my eVGA 680i board. I'm on a PA160 water cooling system, so I should be able to handle quite a bit of heat.

Agreed, go with the E6600. Consistently seen good results with that one...

with the price of the 6700 being where the 6600 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003) used to be I'd say get a E6700 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115002) because you'd have a higher multi (10x) than with the 6600 (9x) to work with.

Damn... well since the consensus is on the 6600 now I gotta change my mobo choice (Quad GT). 680i or 975x... :( THE PRESSURE! This used to be much more easier back in the 939 days.
