Looking to build a new Windows Home Server storage box.

Requirements:

HIGH HDD count, 18+ minimum
Decent air cooling performance
Lower noise (can't call it quiet, not with 18 HDDs in there :P)

My 2 contenders are:

Lian Li PC-V200B Plus II (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811112062)
Mountain Mods U2-UFO Horizon (http://www.mountainmods.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_70&products_id=351)

With either case, I'd planed to use 5 into 3 HDD Tray (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817332011) to increase drive count to meet requirements.

Anyone have an opinion on either case, or a cheaper alternative?

Thanx

vote for UFO case, lots of room, and with the right panels and fans, would be well ventilated too.

Lian Li PC-343B.
30+ HDD capacity.
I was looking for a case as big as MM and more elegant than MM, this is it. I just bought 2 and waiting for them to arrive. :)

why not just buy a traditional rackmount and a rack?

I'm not sure how you plan on powering 18+ hard drives, but that is for a different thread. My vote goes for Lian Li PC-343B, unless I am to choose from the cases you listed, in which I would choose the mountain mods case.

For power, remember this is a server based machine, so only using onboard graphics and no need for overclocking.

My calculations are showing a 700 watt PSU will power 20 SATA drives just fine, though I'll up that to a 1k for some growth room...

As to the rackmount case question: First, I don't have space for a rack for the rackmount case, plus I don't know of any rackmount cases designed to handle 20 drives. I'd have to do a rackmount for the server, plus 2x 12 drive enclosures for the drives... and that gets REAL expensive... And then I'm right back to the mounting problem.

I'm thinking a single cube or tower will give me the storage space I need, and still look relatively good.

I'd looked at the Lian Li cube, but to be honest, I think the MM looks better. But, the Lian Li does have up to 30 drives when you load the bays up :P
