naturally, i took it apart to remove the corpse, but i found something that ocz really should have taken care of: no insulating material between the grounded case and the power receptacle board. there's about 2-3mm of air-gap between the casing and live ac input. if i bumped the psu when it was on or dented it otherwise, or like this poor gecko, something got between the two, there's a serious risk for a short. There's a sheet of plastic on the side of the metal |_| piece of the case, as there normally is on psus, but this is a far more important spot. I put a small piece of cardboard between the two to avoid any future problems on mine, but this really should have been taken care of at the factory. Just as a psa: don't put force on your powerstream's case near the back by the power plug, it might short the ac input. This is the second time a geko has crawled in my psu and died :( (no, i'm not blaming ocz for this, it's common, gekos like warm places at night, any power supply will do).

they don't, they crawl in when it's off but still nice and warm, and they usually don't come back out

I live in the north lol... no bugs or reptiles here =P
but good idea, with all these mesh PSU, it's easier to dent them when dropped on the ground or something, shorting out a capacitor or two.

Sorry Cirthix, i`m having trouble not laughing at the situation :S

If its a common occurance, what about putting fine mesh over the blow-holes?

The best I can say is that we no longer make the PowerStream Adjustable PSU line and that we have never had an issue with dented cases causing a short or any other shorting/gorunding issue with that product. It was overall very reliable and trouble free.

Thanks for the input though.

lol at the responses! sorry guys, my parents have the camera, and they're on vacation. do you really want to see pics of a dried out gecko corpse? lol

oh, and there seems to be some confusion. the psu still works great, and always has, it's the gecko that bit the dust. movieman's right, i do live in Hawaii :P

@tony, good to hear that it wasn't a problem. if it was, i'm sure you would have done something about it :)

I was in Tahiti a few years back and saw geckos crawling all over the walls of a house we visited. Many of them were tiny little guys.
