To my fellow teamates:)

I have very exciting news for you guys...in announcing that as of the 6-27-02 update ....XtremeSystems.org has 4 3Dmark teamates in the Hall of Fame Top 10 at MadOnion. OPP, JCViggen, bmg and after finding out via email from a fellow bencher...found myself sitting # 10.

We are joined by our fellow bencher and friend Macci and 3 of his VR-Zone teamates in the top 10.

I would like to take this moment, on behalf of XtremeSystems.org, to congratulate each and every 3Dmark bencher in the Hall of Fame Top 10. It takes real dedication and perserverance to mod and tweak their systems to get the ultimate performance and now....the Ultimate reward. My hats off to all of you for being the BEST of the BEST. Keep up the great work my friends:)

We shouldnt only be lusting after the overall top 10 positions, but should do so in all recent video card sections (e.g. Geforce 2 and up, 8500 etc...).

Icee and Myself hold the number 1 and 2 positions on the GF2 Ultra section (discounting the slightly 'off' results above us).

Even PC Mark should be done, for the simple reason it too has a ladder, and however flawed it is, OS.org should occupy as many positions as possible.

I was just reading another thread and I noticed a team member telling someone not to worry about artifacts when benching ! So it made me wonder , are all of these scores with artifacts ?

The 2.5 is a dud. My 2.26 is almost as high a overclock yet with a higher fsb lower multiplier.
I was able to run the 2.5 at 178 and my memory was at 238, this was the whole plan, but it scored terrible in 3D, 15900. I guess the Less agressive timeings did it in.

So Macci, what Rambus mobo do you recomend?? It's time to try some RD, the DDR is maxed:D

OPP, yeah I figured the 2.553 should have hit over 3.4G in order to match ur 2.26Gigger

if you planning to go rambus maybe try the new gigabyte i850 mobo GA-8IHXP or ASUS P4T533C. both of those need some modding cos the FSB is limited to 156MHz by the mobo PLL chip. new ASUS P4T533 32bit mobo should go to 200FSB from the bios and there is also some AOpen i850E mobo that goes over 200FSB.

The 2.5 does do about 3500mhz but barely and your still down in the 180 fsb range so it doesn't do much. In fact the 178/238 scored higher then just 184 straight up.

I was thinking about the the Asus P4T533, where would you get the 32bit??

If you mean where to get the 32bit ram then u got no problems: asus p4t533 comes w/ 512MB of RIMM4200 :)

I get it know, the p4t533 is the latest version. The "C" one is out and about but I want to stay away from it, is that right??

OPP

macci
06-29-2002, 01:38 AM
Yups the "C" is the 156FSB limited version and uses normal PC800 or PC1066
the 32bit P4T533 comes w/ the RIMM4200 (= 2 x PC1066 stuff in one mem module) and according to some reviews it may hit as high as 161 4x RDRAM mode. So the RAM should run at well over 200FSB in 3X mode if your even somewhat lucky W/ that stuff :)

I've been 3Dmarking all day and to be honest i'm getting tired of it ... *sigh*
always *something* goes wrong.... I finally had a good car test and everything when it have me a blue screen in the last test... damnit

I'm not giving up though :D I know which clocks I need to get the score I want and I am going to keep trying until it gets through

and to that guy on the first page about artifacts : I max out my card. Anything that doesnt lock up or reduce my score is OK. If you have to care about artifacting you'll never get very high on the ORB ;)

06-29-2002, 07:56 AM
I guess it's just a question of standards JC . It's cool I just post clean scores and @ Guru3D we all do the same . I was just a little shocked . Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to start anything I just wanted to know if you all adhere to the same standars because it will make me and just me look at them different . Later and have a good one .

JCviggen
06-29-2002, 07:59 AM
its just to elimitate the "grey" zone really.... because nobody can see wether your PC artifacts or not, so just push it until you hit the wall. Like this there is no room for arguing what is valid and what is not ;)

anyway, I have succeeded :)

My system is on its teeth... I dont think its possible to get another 10 marks out of it ... my car test finally went the right way now... even 1 FPS higher than i'd ever gotten it. Funnies thing was that I had clocked down my card to 391 for that test. Nature had run at 405 GPU and I actually lost 0.6 FPS there to 398... weird stuff. All the other tests with exception of car hi and lobby hi were run at 398... Anyway, just to show you there's nothing left to tweak... this is the max... maybe in august I can find one of those ASUS 32bit RDR boards... and a 2.4 533 or so...

I dont know how much time this score cost me... but a LOT. ;)
I feel like i've aged a few years today from the sheer frustration of getting bumped to the desktop, blue screening...
I am going on holiday in 2 weeks time, and so this is going to be my last score until somewhere in august... hope I havent been bumped out of the top 10 by then ;). Its a long time to be "off the pace" but i'll be back ;)... oh wait I'm still here :D

Congratulations JC! Excellent score. :toast:

My PNY 4600 dying has set back my efforts to reach 16k. The old Visiontek 4600 I'm back to using is a poor overclocker. I've given up on the TH7II and have gone back to my old reliable P4T-E. I just built my second turbo pll for it last night, so in conjuction with my nicely overclocking 2.4b I'm already getting better cpu performance than I got with the TH7II, and I'm still using regular water cooling (Maze2 and 28C water). I think I'll mod my vapochill case this week so I can use the vapochill with the P4T-E.

The P4T533 will be my next purchase as soon as it's available. If it doesn't show up in the US by mid July I'll have a friend pick me one up in Tokyo when he travels there July 10.:D

Treblig, just a comment about artifacts. You can have artifacts and not even know it. I thought my Visiontek was clean at 750 mem, but running the Q3 Tourney 4 map showed me that I had to back off to 720 to really be clean. My PNY, may it rest in peace, didn't have such a big frequency difference. Even if you're running at frequencies where you think you're artifact free, you've always got issues with running with LOD at best quality or best performance. You can change LOD with riva tuner (among other things) to where it's even faster but looks like crap. Since 3DMark doesn't care about LOD and can't check for artifacts, having a no artifacts standard isn't realistic. To introduce another variable, you can change your video card frequencies (among other things) for each individual test. 3DMark allows it. My turbo pll introduces yet another option, I can change my cpu frequency without having to reboot, so I can now optimize cpu frequency for each individual test. I've tested that capability and it works fine. When I get another video card that overclocks well I'll see how much that improves my score. Macci, if you haven't tried that yet with your turbo pll, see if it gains you anything! Doing that is no more of a cheat than changing video card settings between each test. Now that I think about it, you could even change cpu frequency while a test is running. The legitimacy of that may be more questionable than changing on a per test basis.:)

JCviggen
06-29-2002, 03:46 PM
Thanks for the appreciation guys :)

I'll enjoy it now cos it'll be a while before I can do any great scores... this TH7-II prolly set its last score...

On a side topic, some ppl (probably not from here but they might read it ;)) apparently think I am cheating with the 3*******e proggy. Well they can talk to macci who received my 3dp files and can confirm them genuine (apparently he has the pro version with result browser)

bmg, too bad to hear about your loss :( Always sad to see a fine card go... I am also waiting for that ASUS board. I hope by the time I am back in action its availabe in europe.

thanks again guys
